Hi Everyone,

A friend is thinking of starting a football team and has been looking what league he would need to enter. He is based in Nottingham and thinks he would need to enter the "Midlands Regional Alliance Division Two".

He has looked on the site but said it has be redesigned and is a bit bare at the moment. He basically is wanting to know how to join the league, anyone know?

I have had a look too and can't see any feeder leagues, so presumably they accept a couple of clubs each year to replace those who are relegated? But I don't have a clue how to apply or even if my assumption is correct. Any thought would be much appreciated.

Thanks
:)

He needs to contact the local FA ie Nottinghamshire Football Association - they will be able to advise on level and all other things pertaining to leagues that are available to those playing in Notts!

Sorry about the late reply. But my mate is kind of doing the same thing around Durham/Sunderland.

You'd need to be accepted into this league for a start.

Don't start up a team relying on the fact of it going straight into the league system. Start a team up but make sure you can at least go into a sunday league system. This at least gets your team playing.

Finding a pitch. If you know of a privately owned field for football purposes and you can rent it great. Use that. Even off the council. But bare in mind, are you going to be able to use this for a amateur football club playing in the midlands league? You probalies could with rent being just more than a sunday league team. Check out what the requirements are to be entered into that league.

For example you'll definately need changing rooms for home and away teams. and a separate room for the referee.
Catering facilities. for fans. Even if its just a burger van parked on the road.
Toilets, for any fans you do attract.

I havn't got time to go through it in full. But i can help you more at a later date. just give me a PM

Hi,

Big thanks for this.

My friend is now trying to rope me in (which tbh probably won't happen, since I don't know anything about it)

He has tried finding some information out and plays in a Sunday league himself at the moment. The problem is that the league that he would want to enter has been redesigned and doesn't really have much info on it at the moment.

I think he has identified most of the costs involved and has estimated that the costs for the first season will be around £3500, not sure how realistic that is?

To be perfectly honest, I would probably be more interested starting a rival club to him, just for the challenge lol.

Everything I have seen seems to suggest that it's mega hard work though, in terms of time involved and financing.

Yeah. The figures you say (around £3500) seem to me the figures you normally talk when regarding a sunday league club. I'd imagine figures for an amateur club are alot higher.

Just for interest where bouts are you from? Where will the club be based?

It would be a Nottingham based club. He is looking at starting an amateur club, so sounds like his figures might be quite a way out then lol.

Well Nottingham you've got two football clubs in the football league. Plus the midlands has many non-league teams. I spend alot of time in loughborough near leicester and they have a good few non-league teams.

Why don't you try contacting Nottingham University. And see if you's can team up with them in making a non-league team (Ie Loughborough University, Team Northumbria, Bath University). If they say no. Scout university games. That's where you can get some cracking players.

Tell him to contact the Amateur Fa..
