What could people in China possibly want that the British could supply? Fish and Chips? We have a lot of Chinese takeaways, do you have many of those in China?

Seriously though I'd love to be able to dream up a product that could become big in China.

There is huge demand in China for western luxury goods. The Far East economies have developed and the citizens have much more disposible income. They are also much more aspirational. You only have to look at their desire for western cars, fashion and food.

I read a great article about it in the Times recently. It focused on the huge amount of British meat that is now exported to China to cope with their changing taste and increased demand. It also highlighted how almost all major western fashion houses viewed the Far East, especially China as their number one area to focus on growth

With the population and economic growth in that region anyone who can crack the Chinese market will make a fortune in the next 10 years.

Programme on telly the other day about Billingsgate fish market with a few Chinese folk sending 50 tons of fish and shellfish over to China each week.

Must be some serious money there.

They were sending over 750kg of live crab and their argument was if 1% of 1.4bn people eat 1 crab per year, that is still a hell of a lot of crab !

I donot know that China is huge of importing,,,i suppose must be exporting,,,but as a exporter ,,,its really hard to find any clients nowerdays..Bec there are big chanllenges abt the economy of every country now.
Also China is a big export country,,but with the higher and higher exchange rate,,,,China's export capacity is declining fast..But still need to mention that China is also one of the biggest export of manufacturing...So even UK USA or Russia and so on,,, they all need to import from China ....

In China we have a lot of takeaways.....most of the restaurant offers takeaways....and some of them are 7/24, e.g. KFC.:D

I have a British friend selling milk podwer on taobao.com, Britain Cow&gate, Aptamil....
I believe if the product is unique and with good quality and marketing, it will become a success.
Choosing the right product is the 1st & most important step.

fish and chips would not sell if done in UK style -they think they are too greasey no bones or skin if from yorkshire - they love to chew on the bones - but they is a big demand for western products - as a brit who travels to china all the time i can see the change - international shops are popping up all over the place selling western foods and goods - so yes i believe they is a market if you can find the right product -and at the right price - i have never seen so many luxury cars in one place so they is alot of disposable income

I was in exporting and manufactures for years, according to my experiences, there are milions of exporters are eager to tap into UK and Euro market! But , currently the No.1 and No.2 option are still alibaba.com and Google adwords.
However, some of the exporters started to pay attention to SEO and SEM, there are some exporters hired some black hats seo companies in China (they use Xrumer or Senuke, etc) to sell knockoff shoes (sorry for the bad example) 2 years ago, not sure now...
Btw, i think if the service can really help them to sell things out, they surely would like to pay...:)

Right now China is one of the biggest importer. They even import garbage and recycle it. Personal China is one of the biggest, if not the biggest market now days, who imports and exports same time..

This is right, China is on her way converts from exporting to importing, which means there will be more and more products and services rush to China soon, take a good position in advance is critical ...
