It's super slow, 15-30 seconds to load pages, plus this means browser spell checkers & tools fall over etc. It's going to make people leave and put new visitors off.

For the past few days I have been sprodadically finding UKBF impossible to use as it is so slow (something appears to be trying to load running accross top of the page)

Is anyone else having (had) problems?
Yes!

I have been having issues since yesterday. Services like downforeveryoneorjustme.com were reporting UKBF down as well, so it wasn't only me.

@Ozzy I don't think this has to do with any cleanup. I could access the site with a VPN but not without.

My issue has been intermittent access - either I can't connect at all or, if I can, site is very slow. Now it's better and I am without VPN.

If you're fine-tuning firewall access that may be it.

Yeah, there were some problems with slow speeds but that seems fixed now.

Had a different problem today, my IP was banned on this site!

Don't get me wrong, over the years I've given the mods more than enough reason to permanently ban me :p but I've been slacking lately and not given them too much grief. So was surprised at the timing of the ban. And it wasn't an account ban, it was an IP ban.

But it's all been resolved now. It turns out they were trying to ban someone else on the same internet service provider.

    Yes I have.

I emailed support and haven't had any response.

It still misbehaves in most desktop browsers, dropping line breaks and spell checks as the page chugs along....

Hiya, I've taken a look and the ticket from the 25th of May was logged as spam by our mailing system. I can also see a ticket from today which was also logged as spam, but I'll message you directly about it.

    Thanks Ethan.

I've just tried to renew my membership and see you have a system upgrade which means it's not possible at present. Hopefully it'll be working again tomorrow.

I do also hope you can stop the line flashing across the screen which others are reporting too.

The line flashing across the screen when typing is caused by an integration we're using to determine the tonality of the prospective content. Unfortunately, because this integration requires that we send data to one of Google's APIs it requires making a call from your browser and therefore triggers this line. This shouldn't be too intrusive as it only appears along the top of the screen and ought to not take up too much space.

Is it interfering with the site in a way that I'm not currently aware of?

    Thanks for the explanation Ethan.

I personally find it extremely distracting as the line continually flashes across the top of the screen. It's really not nice to use the site with it there.

I'm surprised no one else has reported but there's been a problem in Brave on Android for some days.

The forum page https://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/aud-feeds/ initially displays OK for a second or two but is then re-rendered so that content is off the sides of the screen "Forum" to the left and "Recent Posts" and the create button to the right
Hiya, Brave isn't a browser that we are currently actively supporting.

If you wanted to raise a ticket with us, I can get it escalated to the development team so that it's at least on our radar:

I find when the line shoots across (which it does repeatedly & regularly) that this changes the browser behaviour in both Opera & Chrome. It seems to stop the spell checker in its tracks, often when you're mid check, plus it removes any line breaks in the text editor.

You end up having to re spell check several times, often having to type more to get the spell checker active again, and repeatedly re-enter line breaks (eight or nine times writing this short post). When the site is in any way slow, it's unusable.

However, from a usability point of view it is very poor all the time and you should remove it if you cant alter the behaviour, as no doubt it will put lots of people off. I certainly post less, as it's hugely frustrating.

I've disabled the live evaluation for now, which will stop the checks from taking place during post-creation. Posts are still subject to being held for review if the tonality is deemed to be too negative (we've tested this extensively and it will typically only flag if there's a lot of f-ing and blinding or some outright nasty speech) but users will no longer know if their post is past the threshold until after they hit "Post reply".

I'll speak with the managers of the integration and see if we can adjust the frequency at which the integration tests the content.

Thanks Ethan, the site behaves properly again now!

I think you should feedback that it's worse than that. Unless there is a way of stopping it interfering with the browser spell checking and line breaks etc, then it's not really fit for purpose, as it's making front end customer usability rubbish to solve an internal issue.

It's the same on Chrome. They're all based on chromium these days.
So you're seeing the same issue in Chrome? I'm not and I cannot reproduce on my phone or any other colleague's devices.

Are you able to test this in Chrome directly and send a screenshot to support, please?
