Anyone else had Ingenico gprs terminal problems

As Streamline told me they would not support my Verifone VX670 as of January I agreed to take one of their new Ingenico gprs terminals & a new 3yr contract.

It duly arrived but has turned out to be utterly useless, dropping it's signal during transactions & continually asking for a voice authorisation. I called S/line repeatedly but got nowhere, they insist it is the signal at fault even though the Verifone works fine on the same network so I told them to take it away.

Their engineer collected it this morning and while doing the paperwork he said a large chain of body product shops had returned all of theirs for the same reason and others had problems with them at exhibition venues, we have 9 days at the NEC soon so cannot afford any issues.

Has anyone else got one of these terminals & had problems?

Hi,

We have had similar problems. We have three sites, and all had verifone vx670 terminals in.

In total we have 6 terminals, and like you, Streamline rtold us we needed to change to the ingenico WL250's, which we did.

Since doing so, nothing but problems, and I mean every day. They keep re-setting themselves, during which time the screen goes blue and they cannot be used. When they are working, they show full signal, but wont connect to Streamline.

Overnight, they keep doing update after update, and some mornings we come in to find literally half a roll of printouts hanging from the back of the machines.

I have spent hours and hours on the phone to Streamline, who tell me that there is nothing wrong with the machines, and that no one else is having problems. They have even changed machines, but the problems are always the same.

These machines are a disgrace, we know it and Streamline must know it, but they are lying to us all, and pretending that there is not a problem.

Worse still, Streamline are refusing to offer an alternative machine, or release us from our three year rental contract, and we have already returned our verifone machines, so don't know what to do next.

I am glad I am not the only one with these problems, I just wish Streamline, would accept there is an issue, and let us, their customer, choose what terminal we want.

As you can see we originally had this problem a year ago, luckily we hadn't returned the Verifone and we're still using it. Streamline told us they would take the Ingenico back & come up with a replacement early this year but guess what, nothing! The fact that Body Shop sent all theirs back says it all.

I just thought that it was me but after reading the previous posts I now realise that the ingenico iwl250 GPRS terminal is not fit for purpose. I am now on the seventh replacement in the last two weeks and this one yet again has the wrong software installed (a GPRS terminal thinking it needs a phone line connected) I have had the same problems that are posted here, dropping signal during transactions not connecting to streamline when displaying a full signal constantly pouring out updates and using paper roll and let's not forget asking for voice authorisation and duff batteries. What is wrong with ingenico, they obviously have a problem with this terminal why can't they admit it and sort it out.

Sorry I can do nothing to help with this problem but incredibly useful for those of us with Streamline terminals which work fine and may need to be cautious about being fobbed off with a replacement which doesn't.

Igf any of the previous posters would like to move away from Ingenico to Spire, please PM me and I would be happy to provide you a quote to switch you to PaymentSense, the Spire M4230 GPRS terminal in our experience is very reliable and rugged, and we have had few if any problems with them.

Would love nothing more than to move away from Ingenico (once my contract ends:() as the iWL250 mobile device I have is next to useless, working occasionally if I'm lucky. However, unfortunately, my work involves providing computer support services to clients and this profession is banned by Payment Sense from using their services! Can anyone recommend another affordable mobile payment device provider that also uses the Spire M4230?

Spire are dropping the M4230 in favour of a new model, which we have no experience of, so you will may struggle to find a new provider who can offer you this model..

Also re your comments about PaymentSense what exactly is your Business as IT Services (delivered in the UK) is a supported Business ( albeit classified as High Risk).

Was your application turned down or just not taken ?

The chap I spoke with at PaymentSense would not even consider an application because of the industry I'm in. I'm a sole trader that provides local IT support to small businesses and domestic clients. I go to the client, carry out the required work and take payment on site. Apparently the fact that I have my own website describing my business was a negative factor. Apparently First Data have experienced a lot of chargebacks related to my line of business and so applied a blanket ban on any business in this sector. Seems a bit harsh to me to tar everyone with the same brush.

Inbound Telesales are under far stricter rules than field sellers such as myself, can you please let me know your web site address to have a look at the site so i can see what spooked them so badly ?

We as Fielkd sales can offer other Providers, subject to certain rules, so if I can help you I wil PM you if you would like ?

My site is www dot adgcomputersolutions dot co dot uk (I'm not allowed to post links yet). Yes, feel free to PM me but bear in mind I have a fair bit of my existing contact still to run with my provider which is Handepay. I started looking around at alternatives after discovering so many problems with my payment device and getting nowhere with their technical support.

I am not from UK, and this issue is representing as a GSM service provider. We received this complain about these Ingenico IWL 250 machine as a service provider side one. But when we investigate found that it is with machines not us(service provider).
Issue is that when merchant try to do a transactions by swiping a card, first attempt was always failed and there after other transactions are ok. Our local vendor escalated this issue to us(Service Provider). We found that this credit card machine sending request towards its NAC too quickly when it goes sleep mode(or something like that mode) and comes back when a card swipe. Some how NAC not responded to machine or something like that(We don't know about configuration of NAC or machine) we(Service Provider) can see credit card machine disconnect the GSM data connection with network and re-create it immidately, these details were found by us trace details when issues happen.
Then we inform our local vendor(this credit card machine vendor) to check configuration of this credit card machine why it is sending too quick messages when it comes back from sleeping mode. It is found that more other machine types(verifone m4230 & verifone 520) are working fine and this message newly testing to operate on here.
Still we are waiting from our local machine vendors respond. I hope some one can give more information about this issue if you have came a cross before.

I have some of these and you need to work out whether it is the older version or the newer one. I don't know how to describe it but the newer one has a more up to date display of connectivity whereas the older one has a phone symbol and an Ethernet symbol. The old ones are rubbish.

We found the main issue was with the fallback to PSTN and dynamic DNS set up. You don't need static IP addresses or port forwarding. I would reject if not working and insist they give you something which does work.

Lastly and though imperfect, removing PSTN as backup i.e. disconnecting from the telephone, actually can improve the connectivity through the internet.

OK, if you don't know what DNS are, then with respect, you should stand down from anything to do with card terminals, internet and so forth as this is a fundamental, connectivity 101.

I use Elavon and usually Ingenico and I don't have any contract with Ingenico. I phone Elavon and speak to their technical guys who really know what they are doing and can either do it remotely, guide a semi literate person through a series of instructions or simply get a new one the next day.

The critical thing for your friend is that he makes 200% sure the guy installing it has done the job properly. How do you check ? You use your own card for £1.00 and then a refund for £1.00.

End of Day and refund will need separate passwords so if this is not done and the installers are largely lazy buggers, then your system will not work properly.

Also disconnect the telephone so it does not fall back to PSTN - but get it set up so that it tries Ethernet first.

Loads more I could say but in truth, your friend has a contract and needs to put a fire under their arse.
