Any SME's using Virtual Reality (VR)?

Hi, my name is Bobby MacPherson, I'm a journalist working in the FinTech industry and I'm currently writing a blog post about the (arguably) rising prominence of VR in the development of UK SME's.

I was basically wondering whether anyone who is currently using VR as part of their business model (or even as a handy, inconsequential tool) would be happy to share their experiences with VR; why it's useful, how you use it and how you feel it may benefit your business' growth in the future.

It would also be great if I could use your name or the name of your company in blog post as well.

Thanks!

No, I'm not. Nor is the local butcher, plumber or bookkeeper. In fact I don't know anyone who is using VR.

What most people use is 3D AR.

I see, sorry if I got the term wrong, could you explain what 3D AR is and how you've used it in your business? I'm aware of Augmented Reality's rise in prominence thanks to Pokemon Go, but I'm unfamiliar with its application within business.

P.S. VR might actually be a good way of training butchers and plumbers without wasting meat or running the risk of human error-based flooding! Not sure how it would apply to a bookkeeping though, so you've got me there.

3 Dimensional Actual Reality - it means getting on with running a business without messing with technology you don't need.

Have used VR last year to watch some YouTube and saved videos on the big screen.
Business related videos to do with creating or selling.

That was with an Samsung S7 edge Mobile phone with vr headset.

After a computer system with HTC headset eventually but that is likely to be next year.

It was a lot easier to absorb the nuances and visual images on the big screen of vr than using a laptop or tablet screen. And no distractions.

Hi Mr D, thanks for replying. Just a couple of questions:

1. What does your business do and what position do you hold within it?

2. Have you felt this has impacted positively on your business' performance as a result?

3. Are you planning on continuing to use a VR headset as part of running your business?

If you'd prefer to chat privately you can PM me!

Online selling, I also make a few craft items usually sold at craft fairs. Always learning new skills, new techniques, new ways of doing stuff.

Director, dogsbody, head of internet, cat herder and chief dog walker.

I like to think I picked up more watching videos that way. Big screen right in front of you like being at the cinema. My skills in drafting and techniques for the crafts I do work on were gained at a faster rate when using the headset to learn with.

Usually I would watch a video of a technique 4 or 5 times to get to where I was able to reproduce the technique, for that period I was watching just 2 or 3 times.
Just learning information from a video I would usually watch once or twice depending on the content. Complicated stuff as you know is harder to absorb in one viewing than more basic or easy to understand stuff.

And yes planning to get a VR laptop and HTC headset next year. Figure 3 or 4 grand spend.
Possibilities of future design work being done on VR faster and in more detail than several dozen sketches for one product.

Probably 90% of what I do is research and design at the moment. I can see where VR can help with that.
