Anti-Virus or just Windows Defender

I stopped using anti-virus years ago. It’s not been a problem. Just stay away from dodgy websites and never click unsolicited links in emails.

    I also agree with the Defender plus common sense comments above, but that does depend on your IT environment. If working alone then you rely on yourself, but if you have others...

    If you have a team of people then you cannot take the risk, and no matter what the performance impact is you just have to whack on those anti-malware and anti-virus and anti-phishing and anti-performance and so on. It simply isn't viable to rely on others not to click that link or download that file.

    anti-virus protects your system from internet virus, malware, etc.
    These are far less of a threat than they used to be. Social engineering and phishing is far more prevalent and your AV package only has limited protection against these.

    I've plenty of clients running with just Defender and common sense.

    But as mentioned above it depends on the people you are working with and also the type of security software you want to invest in.

    If you are comparing Defender vs something like Sentinel One then Sentinel One is going to give far more in the way of security.

    If you are comparing Defender with something like AVG AntiVirus then you might as well stay with Defender.
