I totally disagree that Alexa is pointless, although it's your own opinion. I have found it very useful in most aspects from checking websites' credibility, checking website alexa ranking, to checking monthly traffics to competitor's site and other sites. It all depends on each individual to be honest.

checking websites' credibility - there is no verifiable basis for this rating (it's made up)
checking website alexa ranking - a meaninless figure as it isn't measured against anything useful (it doesn't bear any relation to actual ranking)
checking monthly traffics to competitor's site and other sites - totally made up figures. There is no possible way they could know the traffic my site gets.

But if you want to use Alexa then carry on.

I agree, Alexa is a load of nonsense, estimated data with no hard evidence to back it up.

Alexa's data represents only a block of user that have their toolbar installed. However it is useful. It can give you general idea on what is your traffic rank. Also positive reviews will not hurt.
