I have no idea what I am looking for here, but wondered if anyone could help?
We have to produce a sort of quote for customers, this gives the name of the lender, the loan amount, the rate, fees, repayments, term etc etc.

We also have to write a letter to our customers summarising these points and why we choose the particular lender.

Is there a system where we can upload the quote and it cane generate everything bar maybe the final "why"?

Hopefully that makes sense.

Have you tried any of the online tools?

Writing the prompt takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of it they will all generate a report of sorts. You just need to edit to make it sound like you wrote it yourself.

The promo is the hard part. But a couple of hours practice and you will soon get the hang of it.

Ive not because I dont know what I am looking for.
I want it to pull the information from a document, that has stumped me.
Mail merge has done that for donkeys' years. You write the template, giving names to each field to be found. You put the data in a file giving the right name to each field, then merge the 2. In fact it has been doing it for so long I don't know if it still exists.

That’s quite a bit more complicated. It is possible but not with the free versions. It’s would probably be cheaper to pay a freelancer to do the work for you. You provide the template and the source document and they combine the two.

An alternative could be an online form where you enter the data and the ‘why’ and the report is created along with a pdf if needed. I’ve done a number of these over the years.

I believe what @Mark T Jones says is where you should start, in such an established industry there 'should' already be something out there already with the legwork done.

Assuming there isn't though, what you are asking for can be done by ChatGPT. I don't know if the free version can do it, but I know the paid version does as I use it in a similar why.

You can upload pretty much any type of document to ChatGPT and ask it to read the document, and then ask it summarise the document. Once it does that, you can then ask it questions to tweek it's output, such as please highlight this part or that part, create a quote based on this information that does that.
Once you have finished tweaking it's put you can then type into ChatGPT provide me with a prompt I can use that will output this information as you have presented from a file I upload. It will then give you the prompt you can use in the future to instantly output the results you need.
Yes, it can provide you with the report or quote as a Word document too.

It takes a bit of time on the first run to get it right, but once you spend that time to get the output the way you want it, it then gives you the prompt you need to instantly do it in the future.

Thats not really what I am after. That is more long winded than what I do now.
I have a levels in IT so im aware of mail merge/macros etc. My A levels are from 25 years ago, your right its definitely been around for a while.

I'd have thought that there would be industry-standard systems for this?

I swear clear, but I'm pretty sure there are packages specific to asset finance - look in the trade press

There are systems that sort of do that - ie on our back office system we have to put in the name of the lender and the rate, term etc. We can then export those to a word document and write in the "why" section. But I have someone who does my admin and she only works part time. Its not always possible for them to do the letters and me check them in the timeframe required so I end up having to do them - not a problem but that then means I have to put half the file on the back office system.

But with some of terminology you guys have used, I have been able to find something that more or less does what I want.

    Cheers.

Try ChatGPT. Type in all the relevant information, leave nothing out, ask it to compose your requirements, if it is not right ,tell it and it will reword. You may be surprised at the level of competence.
@tony84 wants to extract data from a document. You can’t do this with the free version.

I don't mind paying (within reason).
But I have found something that allows me to do one document upload a day. I just need to check the site is compliant for GDPR and all that first.
Upload your document into ChatGPT and tell it what you want. The system is officially GDPR compliant but I wouldn't trust it with anything that is particularly confidential and things like PII or IP. The other option is to use an OCR tool to extract the info (if you don't have the paid Adobe to convert to text) and redact the confidential information and then paste into CGPT. I wouldn't worry about loan companies and loan rates and stuff like that, GDPR only applies to PII, but obviously you need to comply with sensitive info, commercial confidentiality and any T&Cs etc.
