I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I was after some advice considering affiliate marketing please.

We use a couple of affiliates on our website but wanted to know how we could make sure we actually get paid? We've been marketing our site heavily on social media and are getting a lot of people are going to our site but the affiliates are saying that we only have a dozen or so clicks a day. All of our tracking is set up properly but according to the companies we've had no sales. Is there anyway we can find out for sure if we've had sales? Would really appreciate any advice on this please.

Thanks in advance.

Considering your other threads I suspect you aren’t getting the sales. Social media isn’t a good source of leads for a comparison site.

If you don't track your affiliate's reporting, you should at least be able to track your clickthroughs. Instead of linking directly to the affiliate link, link to a page on your site where you record the click and then forward the user to the affiliate link.

Unfortunately, affiliate marketing is a numbers game. Depending on the product you may need a hundred or more clicks before you make a single sale.

Thanks, we're also in the process of sending out flyers to shops etc and have a magazine feature out soon so hopefully that'll help.

You say social media isn't the best form of promotion for comparison sites, can I ask what you think is better please?

Adwords and other forms or targeted advertising.

Getting people to then buy via your links is a whole different ball game. You have a really poor site that's not easy to use (and looks very dated) and because it's an affiliate site people won't trust you. And not helped that the prices on your site are different to the prices on the sellers site (or out of stock).

In short, you have a long expensive and uphill struggle. Sorry to be all doom and gloom but you have launched into a hugely competitive market. Your prospective clients aren't using facebook to search for and buy. They probably already know the products they want or are using and have a supplier. Your difficulty is convincing them that your data is accurate and then making sure the target page is correct.

I think affiliate marketing is great for the end client such as amazon as so many people send traffic their way yet most affiliates will never make anywhere near a living. Ok paying for coffee per week is a better goal. There are some niche sites with good pages but you should NEVER pay for traffic which is going to an affiliate page due to the really low conversion. There are tons of people selling courses on youtube telling you to do this, they make money you probably wont.

I'm not into the whole bodybuilding/protein shake thing, but I know a few people who are. They seem very loyal to their favourite brand of shake. Your site seems to be more about comparing different brands with a price from one supplier than comparing different prices for the same brand (sort of like a Trivago for protein drinks).

Where does brand loyalty come in to the equation with your offering? Do you think customers will happily change brands in order to save a few quid?

Depends who the affilates are and if it's authority enough to have support to trust like Amazon, Ebay, Clickbank etc. Still affilate products are in many cases not that great and you really have to dig to find the ones to be worth the tie to build sites and what not around for traffic.

Most affiliate programs provide you tracking tools and most of them are also tracked in affiliate marketing platforms like ClickBank. You need to also research more about the program onnline and see if they have positive reviews. There should be lots of them online.

For this particular business I’m not sure there will be a good source of leads.
