I work in a very competitive industry (payment processing) and due to budget restraints I am finding it very difficult to pitch our company amongst the big boys. I would like some suggestions on what we can do to stand out from the rest?

We have an established client base but we are looking to increase this as much as possible. We are PCI Level 1 accredited and offer a low cost solution to merchants (ideally suited to merchants who will be doing low volumes due to our lead-in monthly charge being so low). We are offering incentives to web developers for promoting our gateway to their clients and I am doing my best to promote us on the forums, comparison sites etc.

I have a website review meeting with our developer next week so I am keen to put some ideas on the table in terms of what can be improved.

Any advice/assistance welcome. If anyone is interested in the web developer incentives please drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi, I'd advise choosing your main service and focusing your marketing on that particular service...

That way people will come to your website for one particular product and the site will be designed to move that person around a virtual "customer journey" to produce a sale.

By having the site listing 101 different services and products it's a bit overwhelming and distracting... if people want a payment gateway then promote that sole service on your website, say what you do, why you do it better - i'm guessing paypal is one of your main competitors - GREAT! They're absolutely pants with customer service and they're a major rip off - so make sure your visitors know that you're the best for one-to-one support and that your flat fee means they get more profit out of every sale.

Good luck!

i noticed the catchphrase "the only uk isp to offer so much for so little"

but i didn't notice any catchphrase telling me specifically what you do that alternatives don't

if you're going to be in such a competitive industry you really need to clarify your USP

Personally Speaking, i think your web site is one of the flaws, if I was researching payment providers, I would want to find a dedicated payment provider, but your site seems to focus more on hosting. And visually there nothing that says payment provider.

There nothing to draw me in, its very generic and doesn't look to offer what I want in the first 3 seconds.

Thank you for the feedback. A dedicated site for the payment services we offer is something we have looked at previously and something I would definitely like to pursue.

Give the retailers what they want without the hassles, then apply restrictions to the accoutn holder in relation to the "money" which is amicable whilst protecting yourselves / underwriter.

Online secure processing via multiple carts (the top twenty) and / or bespoke integration for a reasonable fee, after all you'll be able to use that work again and the retailer you must assume does not have the skills to integrate nor have the time. Vitrual terminal with no grief, the same but can be processed via a remote device which can be rented or purchased... else integrate with their own mobile device on 3G etc. Subscriptions with password keeper would be good for some online sellers, that would also be used for paying real world goods up as is applicable. Offer multi-currency linked to realtime forex rates so consumers can be billed in own currency, charge set 25p-35p fees for debit cards unlike some Dick Turpin providers we could mention whom have adopted the Europan % system for debit cards and finally...

Waive the set-up fee for basic business applications.

Simon,

Do you offer payment processing via an API such as like SagePay offer or do you have to use your terminal / payment pages?

We are about to market our ecommerce solution externally and are looking to partner with payment processing companies for co-operation opportunities.

Hi Liam,

We usually provide the pay page integration (held on our secure server but page can be customised to look like merchant's site) but we do have a suite of API's that can be provided on request (proof of PCI accreditation required). Drop me a PM if you would like further details.

Thanks.
