Ad revenue from apps?

Can you give me a simple example of how much could potentially be made from a free app with ads. If you could give me some numbers that would be great.

thanks,

Depends on how many users. If you have 1 million installs then you can make a reasonable amount. If you have 1000 install then you get nothing.

Question for you: how many app adverts do you click on? That how many people will click on your adverts.

You need huge volume to make any reasonable amount of money. It essentially has to go viral.

I've ran Adwords campaigns before though on the display network which attracted ads via clicks on mobile apps, so they do happen. I suspect that a lot of them may be accidental clicks though (not that it matters as it still makes you money via Adsense).

You wont get eyeballs on your app let alone people to click on ads within it.

Apps are finished. All people use are FB and other social networks and Instant messaging.

Unless of course you are someone like Supercell who make amazing games but were spending $1M a day on advertising to push Clash of Clans.

The right apps will still explode in popularity if they go viral. If you're referring to the idea that people can just make apps and get downloads through the app store exposure though, then I agree. It's a lot more difficult than it used to be. You have to stand out and do some form of outreach.

This is why I think Apple have shot themselves in the foot by being so tight with the storage space on their phones. I think millions of people, myself included, would take a lot more interest in apps if they didn't use up the precious limited space on their iPhones.

In my view, that's one of the greatest restrictions on the app market these days. One of my friends recommended an iPhone game to me which he loved, only for me to find out that it was 1.2 gigabytes in size. There's no chance I'm deleting lots of other things to squeeze it on my 16gb device.

And there's also no chance I'm going to pay an extra £100 for more storage space from a memory chip upgrade which probably costs them about 2 pence. I love iPhones, but I find Apple's markup on additional storage atrocious.

There are tens of thousands of apps and a customer will see about 20 on the app store. Obviously they can choose to browse more but how many will they look at? 30, 70, 100? That still leaves thousands and thousands that will never get seen unless you spend millions on advertising or you have a lottery odds fluke and someone famous downloads it and tweets about it.

Maybe not finished but certainly less popular than they were. Some genres will continue but apps for your local chippy or to check how many cats you have are dying off. A survey showed most apps are installed, used for a bit then never touched again.

Nope not at all. Its not just me saying it. Wired magazine this month has an article on this. The bottom line is people are using 3/4 apps on their phone mainly social media/instant messaging.

There are 1.5 million apps on the app store.

There are 1.6 million apps on the google play store.

90+% of those are 'zombie' apps, not as in the game but as in never seen, never downloaded and don't even recover their development costs.

How will you get yours noticed?

I'm an app developer, when I started back in 2012 when I started it was easy to put up an app and get revenue. Its gone so this isn't based on some hunch or theory.

You want me to sugar coat it for you????
