Accountant Costs??

I am looking for an accountant. Prices seem a bit rich tho?

I have a Ltd Co, I prepare accounts to TB, P&L, Bal Sheet.

Need someone to (from my figures)

Calculate Corp Tax.

Complete Corp Tax return

Complete Personal Tax return

Prepare accounts in acceptable format for Companies House return.

One person payroll calcs monthly and YE P35/P14s.

What should this cost. Looking at £950 so far. Seems a bit steep?

Sounds a litle steep to me too. I pay about that and I don't even present anything pre-calculated/balnced. My accountant gets sales and purchase invoices, and I tally payments in/out of the bank to the relevant invoices. They produce everything, VAT returns, PAYE for 2 employees, and all the usual bits and bobs associated with Ltd Co.s

To be fiar though, my business isn't complicated. No WIP, stocks etc; just the difference between the inpout and output really.

I pay similar charges to my accountant for the annual return; I think you'll find that this is about average.

Without knowing more about your business it's hard to be certain, but the figures do seem fairly reasonable for the work required. Have you asked friends and business associates if they can recommend a good accountant?

When choosing your accountant, try to find out what else they will offer you apart from just form-filling and compliance. A good accountant will be able to advise you on things such as profit improvement, benchmarking against similar companies, and succession planning (or selling your business). They will take time to find out what you do and what you are looking to achieve, then give you sound business advice over and above filling in your tax returns.

You should be offered a free initial consultation to discuss what you need, and let them explain what they can do for you. Don't be afraid to try a couple and choose the one that seems to fit your needs best. Costs are important but not the only factor.
