0700 numbers cost the caller 50p per minute to dial. They are very popular with criminals.

    Avoid them like the plague.

The honest way is to paying for the divert yourself - with us it would be 12p per minute.

Um, I have had an 070 number for years now - and I ain't a criminal!! Sweeping statement there, mate.

As for usage - it works well as a backup number - easy to divert. It's pretty useful for getting callbacks from service providers.

I wouldn't use it as a primary contact number though out of respect to your callers - use a local number divert perhaps.

I think, maybe, it's possible to have 0800 number directed attached to a mobile for relatively low cost - but you'd have to really check that.

There's a company, Metallic Numbers offering memorable mobile number - memorability being key in having potential customers remember it. Haven't checked the company's bona fides though.

    Hope this helps.

You won't find anyone diverting to mobiles for free (excepting our 070 people of course) because the wholesale cost of diverting the call in too high.

There are lots of divert services that will give you an ordinary geographic or non-geographic number and you pay for the diverted call - it's a much better option than 070.

0800 numbers cost about £5 pm to rent and there's an inbound call cost to the number owner as well as the cost of the divert.

Thanks for the comments. 0700 numbers do have a bad press.

I Looked at your site. It looks interesting. My only concern is that I wouldn't want a million and one telesales / callback companies calling on a 0800 type number with me paying the bill. I get enough letters offering me services I don't need.

Any number would only be a website contact and the site will have a contact form anyway. I am just considering it in case someone wanted to contact me straight away.

Your call me back service might be what I need. I have PM'ed you.

I suppose that might be a concern but probably not a realistic one - at worst you hang up and it costs you 1p, compared to the loss of a customer it's not worth thinking about.

No-one in my business/industry would ever call an 070 number on a web site. Luckily, I suppose, most consumers think 070 numbers are mobiles so may not be put off by it but when they see the bill for a 5 minute call to you - £2.50 - they may not think too kindly of it.

I wouldn't recommend using an 0800 number unless you really wanted people to call it - they are used as a sales line normally.

I dont sell products, just my services so I would guess that 1 call a Month would be realistic. This could tie me into a contract lasting from 1 Month to 12 Months. What I wanted was to give people the option to call me without having my mobile number online and without an answerphone.

It would also give me a more proffesional apperance as a business.

I am a Limited company, I am VAT registered so it seemed like a potential next step.

In that case you just need to take a number (we even give you a free 056 number; though I'm now wondering why ;-) don't connect a phone to it or set a divert and then your calls will go directly to the free voicemail service. You also get the voicemail sent as a sound file to your email address.

(all our services are pre-pay, no contract)

Sorry to dig this old topic up, but I am interested in this.

I am looking for a number to use on my website. It's a sales website, I would rather have customers email me, but I do need a phone number on there.

I have looked into 0870/0845/0844 numbers and would need the option of forwarding the call to a mobile or another landline number. I see on your website it's possible to show which number a caller has rung. E.g. have they rung the 0870 number or did they ring the mobile or landline number. Is this possible with your service?

E.g. The mobile rings and it displays O870 111 111 on the screen as it's a customer ringing. However, if someone has rung the mobile number it displays that number.

    Many Thanks
    Lorna

    Hi Lorna,

Yes that's all bread and butter stuff. To do it, you take a number from us then buy an extension from our PBX for £1 per month. That gives you access to all the PBX features, one of which is Line and Number Presentation.

This means that you can see the number calling and even the name of the company you need to say when called. Info here:

    http://www.voipfone.co.uk/Line_And_Number_Presentation.php

You also get other useful tools like Business Hours so that your out of hours calls get sent to voicemail automatically (and you get sent a sound file by email or you can download it or dial into it.)

Give us a call and talk it through with one of the support people - 020 7043 5555.

Thank you, that's useful information. I assumed it would only work if infront of a PC/laptop that would display the number. It's good to know this will work on a mobile phone too.

I will be in touch shortly.
    Thank you

The system will send a call wherever you want it to go (and you can change it anytime).

If you send it to a VoIP telephone or a softphone on your PC, there's no charge for the call. If you send the call to a landline it costs 1p per minute for the call or 10p to a mobile.

Of course, if you use a VoIP telephone or softphone, you can use it to make outbound calls too.

    Hi Lorna

    Here's another idea for you...

For £28.46 (normally £56.92, but there's a half price offer at the moment) I could supply you with an Orange Solo 'Unlimited' sim which comes with Pocket Landline - a virtual Landline number which maps on to your mobile.

You could then put this landline number on your website (in my opinion this is far better for business - I personally avoid phoning all 08xx numbers as I use a GSM deskphone for business and all 08xx numbers fall outside my inclusive minutes).

With Pocket Landline, you can make it play a 'whisper' when a call comes in to your mobile via the virtual Landline.

    Best Regards
