0800 Number

What is the best way to get an 0800 number so if you receive a call it goes straight to a mobile/landline?

Would I know the call came from the 0800 number or would it be mixed in with personal calls too?

Hi

When you get a diverted call on your mobile you see this symbol > followed by the number. It might be a good idea to ask BT for an 0800 number. Just remember that most people have mobiles these days, and almost everyone has free minutes within the packages, 0800 0845 etc etc are not part of the free minute packages, so please list your ordinary landline or mobile number too. Unless Im in the office I do not call 08 numbers from my mobile, and I'm sure many other people feel the same. Some people think having such a number makes their company look big, but the sad fact is we all know who the companies are and this can result in losing customers in some cases.

    This is how we do it

    But you may find that an 0800 number is not really necessary anymore, most people are fine with ordinary geographic numbers and - as has been said above - they can't be dialled for free from mobiles.

    Thanks for that.

    After a bit of Market research we found that almost half of the people were more likely to call an 0800 number with under 2% saying they would call a mobile. Local number came out on top so that's the priority.

    Would people be put off calling a local number that isn't in their home town/area?

    Hi again,

    Personally I would not be put off from calling a local number that is not from my area. Atleast I know it has more chances of actually belonging to the business Im trying to contact as apposed to a virtual office with an 0800 number and get as far as press 1 if you wish to speak to customer services, or press 2 for the main menu again, after I'v pulled most of my hair out, I get connected and I'm told that the system is down at the moment or everyone who can help me is in a meeting and if my luck is really down that day, I might speak to a woman called Tracy with a heavy indian accent living in Delhi.

    Many smart numbers can be configured with "call whisper", a short announcement that the call is from that number, which you hear but the caller doesn't. So you can answer the call appropriately knowing it's a business call.

    This may be of interest.

    Ofcom today published a consultation on tackling consumer concern and confusion over the cost of calling businesses and other organisations on numbers such as 03, 08, 09 and 118.

    Ofcom is proposing to standardise and simplify how a wide range of non-geographic numbers are priced which will help to promote transparency and competition in delivering services through these numbers.

    Under the proposals calls to 0800 numbers will be free from mobiles; it currently costs up to 40p a minute to call an 0800 number from a mobile.

    Under the proposals there would be clear categories of numbers:

    · 01, 02 and 03 - geographic rates;

    · 07 - mobile rates;

    · 0800 - free from landlines and mobiles;

    · 0843/4 and 5 and 0871/2 and 3 - business rate, lower cost; and

    · 090/ 091/098 - premium rate, higher cost.

    The proposals should also provide far more clarity for the pricing of 118 directory enquiry services, potentially leading to more effective competition and cheaper calls.

    Ofcom's consultation can be found here: http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/consultations/simplifying-non-geo-numbers/

    Call whisper tells you before your call is connected that you have a call from your company (e.g. You have a business call for Dial08).

    Dial08 is a new company which provides FREE 0800 numbers, with no connection or monthly rental costs, you just pay for the calls. And best of all its pay as you go and calls are charged by the second. This means if your call was to last for 8 seconds you would only pay for the 8 seconds and not the full minute like most phone number providers. Calls diverted to a mobile cost 18p per minute. Great avleu for money.

    Call Management is from £1.00 per month. Includes call whsiper, caller display, number display, multiple divert, call recording and voicemail. All for only £3.00 per month (RRP: £17.00 per month).
