I had mostly good 5 star reviews put on my profile (unprompted). I did get an absolute idiot send an email which I forgot to answer - it was a complicated question and the answer was "most likely our product wont be suitable for you". I should have sent the email but I was busy. Then the idiot left a 1 star review for failing to reply.
I would have replied to them if they just sent over a reminder email.
Anyway, lesson learnt, always reply to emails even if it's a time suck and the reply will result in no-sale.
I have avoided using trustpilot, because I known from yelp - they had a reputation for running a bit of an extortion racquet where they would get businesses to pay for higher and higher subscription which allowed business owners to delete bad reviews.
Unbeknownst to me, a trustpilot profile was created for my website, and I claimed it so someone else doesnt claim it for themselves, or a malicious competitor doesnt take control of it.
I never push the trustpilot link, its not linked from my profile. But for some reason the trustpilot acitivity has increased over recent months. I used to get maybe 3-4 reviews a year. Now I am getting 2 reviews a month. Roughly similar sales volumes as before.
I cant see it on google, but I wonder if other users seeing the increase, perhaps google/gmail is requesting reviews about my business because google can see the person interacted with the business. And pushing reviews on trustpilot. Or perhaps the trustpilot link is next to my website in SERPS, or sometjing that chatgpt/gemini is doing to increase traffic to the trustpilot profile?
As for that stupid one star review because I didnt reply to their redundant question. I am avoiding replying to it. I know my annoyance will come through, maybe I should use chatgpt to craft a response which makes me sound posiitive and upbeat, how we failed to maintain our high standards to respond to every query and we'll learn from this etc etc.
I also want to add that it's not our responsbility to research suitability of the product for them - I did start researching the issue when they wrote in, and got sidetracked because I wasn't sure as I was getting mixed messages from forums and reddit with regards to suitability. I got analysis paralysis and get sidetracked and didn't remember to get back to the research. (this is the genuine excuse... but makes it sound a bit amatuerish)
