Hi All

I'd like to set up a site on Etsy (a selling platform)... you can set your own returns policy providing it's in-line with the law.

So! can someone tell me what the law is? I'm selling ex-sample stock.
7 days returns and the seller has to also return the buyers postage cost?

Thank you, Poppy

So a good rule of thumb is to simply read someone elses, often these aren't written in to much complex legal jargon, so if it covers how you want to operate then just copy and paste elements to create your own

The law changes across a number of factors, so might be worth checking with the sales or goods act and distance selling regulation etc

I think you will find the 7 days has now changed to 14 days in the UK

If you product is custom made then there is a slightly different set of rules which kick in

An alternative good rule of thumb is to always treat forum advice with some caution.

And unless you don't intend to operate ferries that don't exist into harbours that aren't available, do not simply copy someone else's terms & conditions - it's a completely stupid & dangerous practice.

Think they were meaning that 14 days is a long time rather than anything about having a timescale.

Vast majority of my returns I am informed of the same day the item is received. I have a 30 day return policy for the past 9 years, don't think I've ever had anyone wait until weeks after receiving the item in order to arrange a return.

Perhaps others have experience of people waiting almost 2 weeks to notify of return?

I have had a few over the 14 days. Most people will contact straight away but not all. One person over 30 days received it damaged but had not contacted us straight away as they tried fixing it themselves.
