    I've been using a bit of software call Artisteer which allows you to make your own theme without any programming. Its all done by visual layout as if you were making a Word document.

    I use WordPress as well, it is really simple to use and add plugins and widgets If you want a really easy way of making custom themes I have used Artisteer. Really simple and straightforward. I hear WordPress is good for SEO, but I can't confirm that. Hopefully in time!

    If that doesn't work, you could take out the hard drive and connect it via a cradle and USB to another computer and get at your files that way. I have done this in the past with a VAIO that went wrong.
