In the EU card payments are only made via Visa and Mastercard, many involving Paypal.
Trump's tariff war makes it necessary for businesses to be prepared.

In the unlikely event the US decides to have a raised need for Greenland.
Almost all payment providers are based in the US.
Some have branches set up in the EU.

But imagine Visa & Mastercard are forced to not serve EU customers.
Who is prepared for a situation like that?

    That won't happen.
It would cripple the worldwide banking systems including in the US as pretty much all banks are 'worldwide', which could in theory be blocked by congress or even kick in the 25th amendment if deemed he's gone bonkers enough.

Many things have happened. Just look at the US abandons a 20 years old doctrine.
Would you have thought possible that US sides with Russia?
The defense industry will not recover from the loss of trust. Who will believe them?

Yes I would have thought this possible. Absolutely possible.

I don’t believe it will happen that Visa and MC will be forced to not serve the EU.

Mainly because the infrastructures in each country are independent.

On both accounts you seem to underestimate the fact that a government could easily force to shut down a service to a country. If the Government orders PayPal to close shop or pay a hefty fine what d you believe will happen?

A hefty fine was threatened in the case of Uphold which then withdrew from Venezuela customers.

The electronic badword is crossed out here :)
