I’m exploring the idea of starting a career as a caregiver and would love to hear from those already in the field or familiar with the process. What skills are essential to begin? Are there specific certifications or documentation I would need to get started?
I want to ensure I’m properly prepared before taking the first step, so any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

There are lots of care employment agencies ask one of your local ones for advice.

There is no substitute for experience in this job. If you have not already been a carer, it is a really good idea to get some experience, perhaps through volunteering. If you have no previous experience this might be a real eye-opener and influence whether this is what you want to commit a career to.

The key requirement is an ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate nature. After that you need to commit yourself to ongoing learning and development. Being a driver is beneficial, but not essential.

Being a carer can be rewarding, and many employed carers like having the flexibility of working when and where they like. Good luck and best wishes!

Just wanted to share a quick update—since posting this, I’ve taken a caregiving course through Lead Academy and recently completed it! It was a great starting point and helped me build confidence and foundational skills. Thanks to everyone who shared advice and guidance earlier—it really helped me take the first step.
