Reviews.io vs Trustpilot?

Looking to get a review system up and running and have been looking at Reviews.io and Trustpilot. I like the features that Reviews.io has but Trustpilot now have a free option which is appealing. I have 4 ecommerce sites so paying fees four times over soon adds up.

My concern though is that once I outgrow the free Trustpilot account, their paid tier starts at £199 a month vs Reviews.io being £89 per month for a similar spec'd package.

So, I was just wondering which you guys/gals use and whether you'd recommend it.

I'm using trustindex.io, it gathers my reviews from other platforms and allows me to display them nicely and to the extent I'm using it it's free.

Never heard of it. Can I ask what drew you to it over the established systems?

a bit concerning that it doesn’t mention anywhere whether it’s Google approved, whether it gives you stars for Google search results, etc.

Reviews.io for the features and value for money but it just doesn’t have the same recognition. Trustpilot has almost become synonymous with reviews.

This looks like a spam post (could be wrong) and I’ve never heard of them either.

I haven't personally worked with Reviews.io, however we have had good experiences with using Trust Pilot for our eCommerce stores. We have noticed websites with a lower domain strength but with a high volume of Trust Pilot reviews ranking strongly. I am currently using the free version of Trust Pilot on my website.

Any reviews that Google can index will do that, TrustPilot doesn’t have any special magic.

Just going to through another option out there, which is reviews on Google My Business and if you get a lot of business from Facebook then also Facebook reviews.
My wife gets almost all her business from Instagram and Facebook, so with each order complete email she asks if they'd leave a review on Google and Facebook.

The reason I'm using it, is it gives me a reviews carousel for a website for free, as opposed to Trustpilot, who charges 200 quid for the same thing. I don't think you can actually give anyone a review on their platform, it's a kind of reviews aggregator - I use Google Reviews and free Trustpilot to gather reviews and Trustindex to display them.

This is a very good question and something I'd not really considered.

I just picked a random company I found on Reviews.io and searched that companies website + reviews. Both Trustpilot and Reviews.io came up (with Reviews.io having almost 7,000 reviews vs Trustpilots 700 reviews), but Trustpilot was position 1 and Reviews.io was position 2.

I think my worry is with Trustpilot is that while I understand that it's the most recognised platform, it's a pretty steep jump from Free to £200 and the free package is pretty lacking in terms of displaying reviews on your website, etc.

I was using Trustpilot widgets for the homepage and reviews page but now using TrustIndex (as shows reviews from Google and Trustpilot) for the homepage and Trustpilot for the reviews page.

Funny this topic has come up.

I've been trying to make a decision on which platform to use - as others have said the free tier on trust pilot lacks features but reviews.io want a heck of a lot of money. Some sites seem to do so well from promoting their reviews and i'm keen to capitalise as well.

In regards to content appearing in Google - so far i'm just using WooCommerce built in reviews but its appearing in SERP results fine - has anyone stuck with that?

Google uses reviews (exactly, the content of reviews) from the site pages to rank these pages, if a review form is available on the page.
Trustpilot and other customer review platforms just steal ranking of sites. These platforms accumulate links and content, then they outrank sites.
On the other hand people like to search reviews about sites or companies on third-party review platforms. It seems obvious to use reviews platform which your target audience prefers.

After your post I realised that I could easily add trustpilot to my site. But I don't understand why pay $200 a month if it's free? Is free version enough for a small business?

Just to add to this. We have experience of both Reviews.io and Trustpilot.

We have been using reviews.io for a number of our clients well before they rebranded as Reviews.io. (previously reviews.co.uk). They are an established provider, they have an extremely robust platform, which integrates well (and easily) with most websites.

There was a post above questioning if Reviews.io works with Google star ratings on Ads. 100% yes it does, and we have found that they tend to be indexed quickly by Google, and in most cases appear well before we would expect.

Generally, our advice to clients in recommending Trustpilot or Reviews.io is...

If the aim is to position reviews on the website, in key hotspots which are likely to improve trust or conversion rate (such as the checkout), and the budget is lower, then reviews.io does the job perfectly well.

If the client has a higher budget, then Trust Pilot is also a great choice. From our experience their integration is no better than Reviews.io, however, users (customers) do recognise Trus Pilot more, so this may give a very slight % increase in building customer trust.

Other considerations are of course your website platform and ensuring that the chosen reviews system does actually integrate with it in the way you need.
