Which UK Beach destination would you live or invest in? Blackpool, Bournemouth or Brighton?

Good, Great and AWSOME morning to everyone!

I don't know about you, but when the sun is out and the weather is beautiful it just does something to me especially in the morning.

I'm working from a coffee shop this morning and it's got me thinking ... With a lot of people having the flexibility to work from home and workplaces now embracing that working from home actually has more upside than downside in some respects ... I wanted to ask the question to everyone ....

Would you or HAVE you considered moving closer to your dream location or dream place now that your work-life allows you to?

I have always considered investing in a property in Blackpool because I used to go there as a kid with family and interestingly enough house prices in Blackpool are skyrocketing because of demand!

Am I too late!!!

Let me know your thoughts...

None of them. Great places to visit but I wouldn’t want to live on a beach. Unless it was so isolated the tourists wouldn’t be able to get there.

If I were to invest it would on a lake somewhere.

We moved to the Midlands from Torquay 22 years ago and whilst it was fairly crowded in August it was quite peaceful for the rest of the year. Annoyingly for someone who earns his living from the internet 22 years ago mainstream internet didn't really exist otherwise I would have stayed there

I think that it's changed now and is full of undesirables

Stop that or you'll go blind!

I did 20 years ago. I spent two years researching every corner of Planet Earth, looking for the ideal place to set up a lifestyle business after selling my company in Germany. And despite looking at the US West Coast and the South of France and all sorts of other exotic places, I found the ideal place right here in the UK. About 20 miles from an airport, 15 minutes from the coast, low property prices, great infrastructure, friendly and helpful people, open roads with no overcrowding, very good schools and a growing local economy - the ideal place!

I have always considered investing in a property in Blackpool because I used to go there as a kid with family
I would class that as child abuse!

I remember attending a conference there in February and at nine in the morning, I saw two prostitutes working the streets wearing T-shirts and hot pants in the driving sleet, dirty shops with broken rubbish in the windows and poverty everywhere.

If you want a perfect idea of what Blackpool is like, watch the movie 'Funny Bones'. It is not only hilarious, but it shows Blackpool as it really is!

house prices in Blackpool are skyrocketing because of demand!
No - a house is a house. The value of a house does not go up or down (unless you improve it or something similar happens). What is actually happening is that the value of your money is falling through the floor.

After the War, the price of a house was about two years of labour. Today the price of a house is about 20 years of labour.

You're lucky. I am a fish lover and lived in the North East for a number of years with easy access to North Shields fish quay and from there we moved to Torbay about 15 minutes drive to Brixham Harbour.

Our final move was to the West Midlands which is probably as far from the sea that one can get and the only fresh fish is from the local supermarket but unfortunately Sainsbury's idea of fresh fish is a bit different to mine

Japancool Come on now! One beach in the UK has left a terrible feeling around your toes?

I think having easy access to the beach or the lake as well as having the local Waitrose or Marks and sparks a stone throw away would be the dream!

If anyone knows where thats possible in the UK please let me know and I will treat you for Christmas

My grandmother lived in Brighton in the 60's. We went there regularly then, and I loved it and the other places along the coast. If I had to, of those choices, it would be Brighton (I don't like lying on a beach) but it would not be my first choice. I love the area around St Albans, but given absolute choice it would be Carmona in Andalucia.

You may see an announcement every year of the Blue Flag beaches in the UK. What very few realise is that the only ones considered for the list have a whole lot of facilities which would spoil any decent beach. They also only choose to put forward beaches which can be CHEAPLY reached by the NRA testers.

I would invest in a holiday home near the beach, but wouldn't want to move their permanently.

Happy living where I am, within driving distance of London, the south coast beaches and the Cotswold... Don't have to drive far depending on whether looking some city life or relaxed countryside!

Would love a weekend place to getaway along the dorset or devon coast.

I lived in Eastbourne Marina for a while - it was nice in many ways, but slightly too far from London and a bit backwards

It's hard to beat looking straight out to sea each morning, whatever the weather.

My wife won't live near the sea due to the risk of tsunami, which she assures me is very real.
You could of course talk her into buying the penthouse she won't get her feet wet then :):):)

A stones throw is about 25 metres. It is difficult to find a house / a waitrose / a marks and a beach within 50 meters radius. But is you are prepared to extend that to 250m, I have found you the ideal location.

    Southend on Sea
    Thorpe Bay's quite nice ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and there's a boat ramp only a stone throw's away :)

Covid has had a big impact on resorts like Blackpool, which status and socially is very similar to Great Yarmouth, near me. Up to Covid, both were, as holiday destinations dying. Hundreds of B&Bs converted to multiple occupancy because the money from holiday makers was drying up. Covid has meant guest houses and hotels this year are doing very well, and the two towns are looking to be busy. If foreign travel becomes feasible again, I suspect their popularity will slip.

I do know that I would not personally wish to live in either. The South Coast is very different, but of course it's much more expensive. Brighton or Blackpool is not really comparing like with like.

When I moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne some 35 years ago my business partner had a huge apartment in Bamburgh castle and I stayed in that for a while.

The castle is right on one of the nicest beaches in the country which was always deserted as Lord Armstrong who owned it at the time wouldn't allow ice cream and burger vendors on it

I was there in June - it was actually quite busy - and Holy Island was heaving!

I tested this theory and only managed 6 metres. Because a dog caught the stone. Tried again and hit a tree. The next attempt was more successful. I dropped it off a cliff and reached 32 metres.

There is nothing better than living by the sea in my view. I moved from Cambridge down to the Hampshire coast and now live on a Spanish coast.

I would not bother with Bournemouth or Brighton they are both over crowded and expensive. My wife lived in Worthing when I met her and that is on the way up. It is a pretty good London Commuting route.

I recall Hastings is subject to investment too.

If you can only throw a stone 25m you should find someone who doesn't have a noodle for an arm and extend your search a bit. :D
