Theres one thing being charged, but it should be very difficult getting convicted. I am sure a British Defence Lawyer would be able to pick massive holes in the investigation. It will be interesting to see how the exhibits were handled with regards to continuity and cross contamination.

No, I didn't mean that. For what it's worth, I hadn't known the parents were doctors until I read a news article this week.

What did you mean then? I'm just curious because you seemed to imply that they couldn't have done anything because they are doctors. Whereas I, cynic that I am, am thinking that Harold Shipman was a doctor and offed quite a lot of people before anyone even noticed... so, no, being a doctor doesn't mean you can't commit a crime. I'm not suggesting here that the McCanns have done anything wrong, only that their profession is irrelevant when it comes to the possibility.

There are MANY threads on forums out there relating to this issue....every take on the situation has been discussed, every theory, every criticism...the press, the police authorities, the family have all been scrutinized.

You're right that many doctors from the past have been infamous criminals, but I wasn't meaning to imply that the parents in this case are part of that tradition or not. I was just raising an eyebrow when I learned that both parents are doctors, something of which I was previously unaware. It would magnify the shock if they are found to be guilty of something, but let's hope to goodness that they are not.

Either way, the parents must be going through a living hell right now.

As someone "in the trade" so to speak, do you think there is anything in that or is it just a wild conspiracy theory?

Reading those Mirror forums makes you realise that the tide of public opinion appears to have turned against the Mcanns even if this is not yet reflected in the papers themselves.

The "photo was doctored" theory sounds a bit like conspiracy theory to me. As with most conspiracy theories it relies on a pretty unlikely set of circumstances. e.g the parents of a couple who have supposedly just 'accidentally' killed their daughter just happen to have access to a computer loaded with Photoshop and also have the know how and composure to fabricate a new photograph.

I am sure if the photograph has been tampered with it will be pretty easy to prove.

As for the photo being doctored, it does not look like it is, to the naked eye at least, but it could have been taken a day or two before for all anyone knows, and the date/time stamp could have been changed to a later date. Dont know what camera they have, but its not difficult to do on my kodak digital camera... It would be easier to do that than to doctor a photo to add a extra person..

Hold on everyone, I've got Elvis's phone number here somewhere, I'll get it for you and you can ask his opinion.

H

He wont be pleased if you give the number out, he went ex directory a while ago ;)

Back on topic, I see the latest news is they are looking into whether the fund money can be used to pay the legal fees now they are suspects.

The directors are looking into it.. Mind you the trustee's include friends and family, but I think they are disallowing them from voting. Its a lot of money at stake, last time I looked they had made over 1 million.

So the fund is set up to find Madeline

But surely part of finding her is to make suer the parents get treatment of the legal system in Portagul and it all helps to find out what happened to her

Maybe the trial or further investigation will the matter to a conclusion

Why cant we do a poll on here and ask from the media covereage given who thinks what - there were so many leaks over there - so called for privacy in th einvestigation

Come on lets ask the question

do you think the parents know anything about the dissappearenace ?

YES / NO

I am definate NO

Hold on guys

This is not something that I believe can be voted on in a public forum like this and I believe that media coverage is no basis for deciding whether or not someone is guilty. Like it or not we have to leave it to the legal profession to do this.

Please feel free to continue to debate as is normal on these forums but as a Mod I may have to veto any such poll.

Sorry :)

I quite agree. At present we can only take on board what the press have written as the police are not allowed to disclose anything. It wasn't that long ago that the press had us believe it was that other guy and maybe the Russian guy was involved too!!

It seems to be a bit of a freaky whodunnit to me, and I only hope the conclusion is not based an a scrap of DNA and that they actually find the poor girl alive or dead.

Can you imagine if there was still public lynching? The population would have been reduced by 4 already!! ;)

Unfortunately, this story is selling newspapers, so the media will continue to hit us with gobsmacking headlines.

As mentioned, we are only being informed what the media tells us, and a lot of that is speculation anyway.

Leave it to the professionals to work out what happened, and let's hope that if she is still alive, she will be reunited with her family soon. A lot of focus has been on what the parents must be going through right now - what about the child herself?

If Murat had been charged, would the McCanns have given him some of these funds so he could hire a good legal team and get a fair trial?

Nope.

So, if the McCanns are charged and use some of that money to defend themselves, it would be a misuse of funds IMO.

Though, if they're charged and convicted, what's going to happen to that £1m?
