Facebook targeting for a Handyman business

Hi everyone,

I work as a handyman and I would like to use Facebook to promote my business and even though I have learned a bit about Facebook Marketing I am stuck with regards to how to select the correct targeting for the Facebook adverts.

If anyone has any insight or tips that would be great. I am looking to target consumers rather than businesses at the moment but would love information on both types of targeting.

Hi Lebar,

Thank you very much. I have read up a lot on Facebook marketing and boosted posts etc but its the targeting I am struggling with. I do not just want to target a whole local area I am hoping to get some tips about which interests I should add to help me build up a really good targeted Facebook advert.

For example home owners might be one interest but I am looking for others so I can really target the adverts to the right audience.

Hi there because I have read many small businesses get good results using Facebook advertising but obviously to get good results the targeting for their facebook adverts and Boosted posts have to be spot on. So I am looking for interests I can add to the targeting to really target my potential customers.

Whatever you have read needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. A lot depends on the type of product or service being offered. A handyman probably isn’t one that will do well.

When we need a tradesman we google, ask friends or post on local forums and support sites.

Have you got a website? Are you listed on google maps? If not then that’s where you need to start. Facebook can come later.

@fisicx beat me to it. I wouldn't give to much weight to what you read about Facebook advertising, or even generally using Facebook for business purposes. As @fisicx has already explained, the type of business for which Facebook is useful is narrow, and generally doesn't include trades and services.

I think its £100 to have 1,000 leaflets delivered.

1 in 100 / 1 in 200 will call.

Must be a good well designed leaflet - design costs about £100.

Yes those are my results i use to do sales for a double glaze window company and another solar panel company.

I also did Kleeneze catalogues as my first job for a few weeks. They were around 1 in 100 or some times 5 in 100 was a sale. On a bad day 400 catalogue drops no sales.

Handy man will be a lot higher its targetted. Households - Need house stuff doing.

You must make it clear which services you offer, photos of your work will be good and a photo of you.

Show me your leaflet before you deliver them.

Report back your results.

I disagree. Households need specific things doing, they don't employ a handyman until they need a service. How many leaflets have you kept on the off chance you might as some point in the future what want they offer? And even if you did would you want someone with a proper website or someone with just a FB page?

I agree with @fisicx on this, you need to think about the services you offer... are you a "jack-of-all trades" or a specialist in a certain area?

If i have a tap leak, i'd call a plumber, not a handyman

If i need a new staircase, i'd call a joiner / carpenter, not a handyman

If i need my garden cleaning, i'd call a gardener, not a handyman

I really shouldnt be answering your irrelevant questions but I will just to make fun of you:

Answer - leaflets aren't for keeping or treasuring they are made out of disposable material. I'm surprised you didnt ask me how many TV adverts I recorded just incase i need that service in the future.....

Answer - oh dear oh dear I only just discovered the builder who built my extension does not have a facebook page let alone a website? What I'm I going to do now? Note to self - make sure all future builders are tech savy with all the latest gimmick technologies!
