Referral Gifts

Hi all

I'd like to send gifts to people who refer my business services, but I'm unsure what to give. If it's an existing client someone suggested a percentage off their next invoice.

But I'm looking for more of a proper gift as it's not always going to be a client. The gifts would have to be for both men and women or I could have two gifts dependent on this.

Here's a few ideas so far:
  • Wine with a personalised thank you swing tag
  • Big 'thank you' cake
  • Chocolates or retro sweetie box
  • Flowers
What would you like to receive, I'm looking for something that would make you smile!

Thanks in advance for any comments, suggestions or personal experience.

Hi Alex,

We do Promotional Products and I am a big pioneer of giving out quality gifts. Something that has a brand and value attached to it but also has your logo on so it gives good brand re-I forcemeat while not looking like a marketing piece.

Maybe something like a Parker Jotter or Cross pen.

A popular seller currently is good quality Notebooks, it seems that due to people now using calendars on there phones they no longer have the use for diaries so instead they carry s notebook to take notes. If you give out a good quality one with you logo discreetly

A charity donation to a charity of their choice.

I've never found much of an uplift in referrals when they are incentivised. You're possibly better to build a 'message' around referrals into a long/longer running campaign that regularly reminds people. It's the frequency of reminder that is probably more powerful in gaining the referrals than the offer of a gift that, in my experience, is quickly forgotten.

Hi Setmoa,
I think that a good choice in this situation is making a short survey and ask your clients for opinion. They also might give you some great alternative ideas.

Personally I really like AndyLF's idea to make a donation for a chosen charity organisation. I would probably choose this option, and if there wouldn't be such I would go with wine or chocolates :)

I thought about this for a while and went with the charity option in the end. I saw so many referral schemes where people were offering wine/chocolate/flowers/branded gifts etc and I wanted to do something different. My clients get to donate to a charity of their choice whether it's a major organisation or a local charity. It has the feel good factor and it's nice when people feel their helping their local communities.
