Review websites such as TripAdvisor are littered with "warped and twisted criticism" which threatens the livelihood of bona fide businesses, travel guru and hotelier Alex Polizzi has said.

But we already knew that, didn't we...?

Ignore the top and bottom 10% of the reviews and you'll get a better overall picture of somewhere.

I have heard that some folk try and use review sites as a loaded gun. ie Give me a discount or I will write a bad TripAdvisor review. It is tough, but as silvermusic says, take a balanced view of the reviews.

Just act as 5* hotels. Apologise, invite them to return to make sure it is better and offer a personal contact to discuss their grievance if they wish to. Then thank them for their custom.
