Your a naughty "SEO" because.....

People are very vague about the do's and donts really. This is a forum and people should be getting advice so hows about this.

You can tell bad SEO because.......

1) They negotiate price first, you haven't even told them what you want.
2) They ask you what keywords do you want. Guide lines are fine, but a good SEO will explain which terms are more popular and why.
3) They cannot/wont explain things clearly to you. If you dont understand then ask? If someone walked up to you and offers you a jiggerypock for £100 you would ask them what a Jiggerypock is.
4) We have special software..... er no you dont. Most software only helps with analysis or reporting. Need a bit of real brain power to think out of the box for SEO.
5) I worked at Google, I know how it works..... chances are you didnt. More likely you worked in an adwords office... soon as they say this run a mile.
6) You will be at top of google every month for £100 guaranteed..... con or adword or may be your page one for your company name.

My software kicks butt does that make me a bad person?

I would have said an underlying problem is generalisation, so a guy got his site page one for a long tail phrase and now thinks he can conquer the world... but I guess you can't tell that from the next guy

I'd add they still believe submission to hundreds of directories, reciprocal linking and meta tags are KEY to a successful SEO campaign.

I'd also throw in an incompetence to do some research first - I regularly get e-mails from SEO companies saying they've noticed we aren't on the first page for our chosen keywords. Apart from the fact how do they know for definite which keywords we're focusing on, a quick search in Google for some of the most obvious search terms associated with our services and you'll see we're in the top three.

haha yeah i agree with most things except the tools one, i still use software like scrapebox for my clients.

Just to extend on this for people who dont know scrapebox, its a tool for automatic blog posts in its main function.

However it does SOOO much more.

You can put it a competitor URL and pull up all its backlinks - which is a very important part of things still today post penguin / panda.

I also wish i had jumped on the xrumer train as for the first 6 months after it came out properly as it would have helped me so much with ranking, however now it wont help unless at least on 3rd tier levels if done in bulk.

There is nothing wrong with scrapebox it is merely a crawling tool and information gathering tool. You can send it out to gather up instances of keywords on certain domains to use as a link building base for example.

Scrapebox has been given a bad namemainly because it is used to post spammy links. But that is like telling farmers they are nuts to use fertiliser when it is used for making bombs!

It isn't the product that is bad, it is the use that product is put to. Morphine/heoin has been used on the battlefield for centuries, and is used today for medical reasons.

It is the abuse of it that makes it bad, not the product itself

lol, read my post again and see what i said about what i use scrapebox for.

As for your out of context reference to xrumer, If you had the chance to rank pretty easily on page 1 for very competitive keywords, would you do it?

This was the case for about a 4 month period before Google started to effect more the anchor text in link building.

Either way, if your against the use of automated software because you "think its not right" then sorry, but get out of the game,

The key to everything is know the process inside and out manually - then look to automate. Dont just jump head first in and say "give me 1kk links today please"

If it was that easy to rank a site for competitive terms we would all be xrummering wouldn't we?

Unless you know something others don;t.

In which case i'll take 'Mortgages' please. Can you do that for 20 pounds a month?

lol, sorry but some people do not read the whole post or something?

I believe i said "i wish i had xrumer when it first came out publically"

or something along those lines.

As it literally was the 1 tool that propelled you to the top of the rankings. And for people who knew about its power - THEY WERE USING IT.

That period only lasted 4 months, but damn, better 4 months than nothing.

Next time please instead of trying to sound smart just because your post count is much higher than mine, just read what i typed first

Ok, well i would disagree it is better than nothing because i would personally rather do it right first time than have to keep running blasting tools...

I wasn't aware post count had anything to do with anything :|:D
