People are very vague about the do's and donts really. This is a forum and people should be getting advice so hows about this.
You can tell bad SEO because.......
1) They negotiate price first, you haven't even told them what you want.
2) They ask you what keywords do you want. Guide lines are fine, but a good SEO will explain which terms are more popular and why.
3) They cannot/wont explain things clearly to you. If you dont understand then ask? If someone walked up to you and offers you a jiggerypock for £100 you would ask them what a Jiggerypock is.
4) We have special software..... er no you dont. Most software only helps with analysis or reporting. Need a bit of real brain power to think out of the box for SEO.
5) I worked at Google, I know how it works..... chances are you didnt. More likely you worked in an adwords office... soon as they say this run a mile.
6) You will be at top of google every month for £100 guaranteed..... con or adword or may be your page one for your company name.
