Is it true that facebook is closing down on the 15th of March 2011.

The site 'quotes' founder Mark Zuckerberg as saying: "Facebook has gotten out of control, and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness."

There's also a 'quote' from a Facebook vice president saying that all stored data will be deleted on the 15th: "If you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business," he explains.
Given that the company's recently been valued at $50 billion, this might all seem a little implausible.

But dozens of Facebook pages have been created mourning its departure or pleading with Zuckerberg to change his mind. There's even a petition. Facebook's been prompted to issue an alert on Twitter: "We didn't get the memo about shutting down, so we'll keep working away. We aren't going anywhere; we're just getting started," it reads.
"Most people would probably never believe such a load of old nonsense as the claim that Mark Zuckerberg is going to shut down Facebook, but it only takes a small proportion of people to think it might be possible to turn a joke of a news story into an internet hoax," says Graham Cluley of security firm Sophos.
"And although a hoax is nothing like as bad as a piece of malware worming its way between users and stealing information, it's still a nuisance, clogging up communications, increasing the overall level of spam and perhaps leading people to make decisions for the wrong reasons."

There is hundreds of sites saying the same thing.

Why do people always believe these things? It's like all the hoaxes of Facebook were going to charge a $15 a month subscription - until they put "Free and always will be" on the log-in page. Mark Z is in a very, very rich man, do you think he's going to shut down the site that has made him money?

He has stated in different interviews his different ideas for Facebook.

There is hundreds of sites saying the same thing.

You mean you really have been to "hundreds of sites"? Do you not think they have just fallen for the same hoax? What do the trusted and credible sites say about this?

Are you hoping that Facebook is closing down so that your "Electronic Enterprise" site will take over? A site which, by the way appears to have errors, pages that can't be found (the "About Us", "Contact Us" and the "Electronic Enterprise" link at bottom of page), you have to log in to view the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy (is that not illegal?) and you offer the ability to log in using a Facebook account, despite the fact you believe Facebook is shutting down.

I haven't tried posting this to hope that my site will take off my site is doing pretty good as it is for now. I know it's got a couple of problems which I am trying to fix but that's not what we're talking about. What we're talking about is if this is true or not it has not yet been proven.

Facebook has yet to officially respond to the article.

Yes, and even if there was an official statement to these rumours, you would say "Well, they would deny it wouldn't they?"

If you believe they are going to close then you make sure your stop your account, take off any photos you have on there, remove the connect to your site with a Facebook account and wait and see what happens on May 15th or whatever date it'll be.

I give up, my father always said you can't argue with a closed mind. The OP obviously believes this is going to happen - so won't listen to sense.

It is very hard to prove a negative and, like I've said above, even if Mark Z was to release a statement then the OP, and all the other conspiracy theorists, would just say "Well, of course he's not going to admit it".

I really cannot be bothered to spend more time on a thread asking if Facebook is closing down which originated as an exclusive from a paper that prints exclusives of alien abductions, etc.

I have just found more information about Facebook and Google it seems that Facebook has denied access to Google to do a search on their site so Google has retaliated saying that no one with a gmail account can sign up to Facebook. Google has announced that they will be making a social networking site to compete against Facebook for more information and the full story go to:-

It looks like a lot of people are starting to dislike Facebook.

Did you actually read that story properly :|

Regards

Dotty

I think it is you who needs to re-read this.

Google is blocking data access to its Gmail and Android contacts lists to any company that refuses to give open access back to Google. In essence, the search company is no longer giving away its data like a charitable person; it expects a gift in return.

The move is a direct attack on Facebook, but there are no stats on how many other companies this block will affect.

They ran this same nonsense scam when 'Hotmail was closing down'

Ahem. Actually, although Hotmail didn't close, msn did pull the plug on thousands of its groups, some of which were still active - as active as this forum. The effects of this closure upon certain members were absolutely devastating.

Just thought I'd mention it.
