As I understand it from your previous posts the grit and shovel are free - there's no mention of this, only that they are included. Also no mention of collection of unused grit if required.

Not sure on ebays policies but could you advertise it at £50 + £50 refundable deposit.

The whole grit bin thing is not for me, but I would have thought it would have been far less hassle to have just sold the bins rather than all the collection malarky. Then your customers have got it ready for the midsummer frosts.

yes 40 kg's of grit is included in the hire fee as well as a shovel

plus you get 50.00 back

ebay will not allow you to sell an item for 50 and then charge 100 even if you do give 50.00 back at the end of the hire

Its not even a business. I cant see it being popular, and even if it were it would make no money. Sorry to be blunt but as far as I can see its full of holes, from both a marketing and financial point of view.

if i put free they may think they are going to get a free shovel, but is included in the hire price

so all they are paying is 50.00 for the use of a grit bin 40kgs of grit and the use of a hand shovel

i think its a good idea for maybe people with a large drive way of paths ect,
who dont want dirty bags of grit everywhere

You need to make it stand out a bit more.
You have more space in the header so write a bit more - i.e. how long the hire is
Upload a clearer better picture.
More descriptive clearer description
Plus £15 for a 5 day courier is rather expensive especially only in the West Mids!

Don't put the buy it now price same as the starting bid, if you want £100 price have this BIN alone.

I think the main flaw with this idea is the £100 with £50 back. For anyone buying, its a £100 purchase and thats it. Ok so you get £50 back but you have to stump up the full amount to start with and for the cynical theres no guarentee you'll get the £50 back anyway. I'm guessing this maybe could appeal to the elderly who worry about everything and are usually very trusting but these people don't do Ebay!

Is that not a good price for 51 kg delivery and collection= £ 7.50 EACH WAY

Have you thought of a different target market?
Pretty much every local council neglects their duty by not gritting certain public areas each year.
How many times have you seen a shop keeper clearing snow from outside their shop or trying in vain to to get rid of ice on the pavement outside their shop?
Shops - local co-ops,newsagents etc, customers would prefer to use a shop that has a clear pathway to the shop entrance.
Small industrial units that have trade counters or sell direct to the public.
Restaurants with car parks, a clean and afe route to the restaurant from the car park.
Petrol stations, I would assume that the area around a car wash can get very icy in winter.
And as mad as it may sound, rent them to the council for use at library's and other local council buildings were the council cannot or will not grit due to the cost.Afterall councils are notourious for coming up with excuses why they cannot grit certain public areas.

Have you got your own transport, or are you relying on couriers for your deliveries? If you have your own transport then I am going to make a suggestion.

Forget ebay, forget internet sales, forget all that you have done so far because by the sounds of it it hasn't worked.

Have a cruise round your locality then find where the roads and driveways are on hills or slopes and go knock on their doors. Anyone who was inconvenienced or trapped by snow and ice last year, the year before and the year before that will clearly remember slipping and sliding all over the place trying to get on or off their driveway.

Now there you are, how much more focused and targeted a sales plan do you need?????

Yes and like others have said, nip in around some bungalows and put some leaflets out.

If you are still set on hiring, how about doing a share scheme amongst neighbours - let a couple of properties share one or offer a discount if more than 5 sign up etc etc.

Maybe having an ebay presence isn't working but I know one of my suppliers puts some things on ebay to hire, they hardly ever buy through ebay but ring the company direct after seeing there name.

Googling hire ...... and and ebay listing comes up in the results and shopping results pretty quick.

just typed in grit bin hire and my webpage is listed No2 on page No1 but i only put the page up yesterday

google are good

ebay listed my sale No1 on google

Google are good - i think your a bit clouded there i'm afraid... it doesnt seem to be a very popular search.

Google grit bins alone, bet you get a much higher response

And another couple of posts, this thread will be above it, so the few customers you may have attracted will read it and buy one instead, no-one wants to be part of a crappy idea.....

Sorry it seems it was already above it......
