A quick one. An e-marketing question. Will be very grateful for feedback

Which of these subject lines would you open if they droppoed into your inbox.

1.Cost cuts that make even the most shrewed boss happy
2.Quench you're thirst for a bargain this summer
3.Latest Watercoolers, higher on hygiene, lower on cost
4.Change your water coolers - a tempting invitation
5.Splash out and save money - pull the other one
6.You don't have to make a big splash this summer

Tapwater said to contain "50%" more pathogens than ...

Are you putting your employees at risk with sub-standard ...

New research shows rising levels of oestrogen in bottled ...

All of your suggestions were not good.

They sounded like cheesy business lines rather than evoking an emotional response.

I don't care if its slightly humorous or offers me a deal that I've heard re-used 100billion times.

I care if it effects me, or my business directly.

Also bottled water is the worst kind of water you can consume. It's costly and has lower standards of safety testing than tap water. i.e. it isn't as ruthlessly tested for bacteria, toxins, water-borne viruses and amoeboids.

Actually do you sell those UV watercoolers?

They actually kill all the nasties!

So how about "Sunkissed water can save lives"

"At Blah we've harnessed the power of the Sun and incorporated it into our water coolers. The U.V. light produced in our 'sun simulator' kills all known water-borne pathogens and could save lives right in the office."

That's not how you spell "shrewd". It might get the most opens, but there'd be little no correlation between the people who open it and the people who'd be most likely to buy. So, no.

2.Quench you're thirst for a bargain this summer

Rubbish.

3.Latest Watercoolers, higher on hygiene, lower on cost

Maybe best of a bad bunch.

4.Change your water coolers - a tempting invitation

Probably not.

5.Splash out and save money - pull the other one
6.You don't have to make a big splash this summer

Both rubbish.

7.Water Coolers - Contract Renewal Invitation

Doesn't really make sense.

Hope this helps,

Steve

What about "Do You Need Water?"

Yes. Our bodies require at least 10 glasses of water per day or we don't work at our highest productive capacity.

The stuff out of the tap isn't very tasty is it?

But we've got something for you, if you're interested.

We will deliver our water free of charge for the first month - if you like it then we can set up a sum of £x per X

How does that sound?

Just hit reply with Yes and we'll take care of the rest.

I wouldn't open any of the more cryptic ones (1,2,5,6) but if I happenned to be in the market for a new watercooler, I would open the others. You either want a watercooler or you don't. Of people who are looking to change their water cooler, only 50% might open 1,2,5,6 whereas the majority of them would open the others. (you might get more people looking at the cryptic ones, but if they're not going to be interested in a watercooler, you don't need 'em!)

Don't guess - split test!

What ESP are you using?

You are better off taking a small segment of your list and sending an equal amount of messages for each subject.

EG.
1000 emails with subject 1
1000 emails with subject 2 etc...

At the end of this test, go back and see what had the highest open rates/conversions then send to the rest!

Simples!

I guess the only reason I would have to open ANY of them (if they get past my spam filter !) was if I'm responsible/interested in water coolers ?

And in that case, I would probably prefer 7:

7.Water Coolers - Contract Renewal Invitation

I know what it is about immediately, and it doesn't seem "spammy"...

But I have no idea what your target audience really would think, so I agree that A/B test is probably better (but narrow down the options).
