Hi

I am looking business people to swap web links with. Im trying to increase my search engine positioning, and need some more quality links coming to my site.

My offer is to link to your websites in return for you linking to mine! Ideally other businesses in the South of England.

I wont be linking to other photographers with competition being so high.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested! :D

Hi

Your links need to be relevant to your site visitors so what categories of business are you looking to link to? That info should help anyone on here see a fit for backlinking easily.

Also, an indication of your traffic levels will help other similar sized businesses come forward. There is no point trying to get a link with a major corporation, nor do you want to link to someone who has only 3 visitors per year!

There are many other routes to traffic and increases in ranking than linking. Just a couple of suggestions:

Most people will search on the word "photo" rather than "photography" so include instances of that where you can. So, Photography Blog on the home page, but then within your blog, you can replace a couple of the instances of photography with photo. What other keywords are hot? Sprinkle them throughout your site. Think about mis-spellings too. I can't imagine how many people can spell "portraiture" or even "portrait" correctly, so the odd misspelling would be worth including (in a subtle way!)

Add keywords into your alt img tags and image titles too. So, whilst "Lucy the Fashion Witch" may seem easy to type and descriptive when you put the photos up, it is unlikely to be a search term for people from the south of England looking for photos of their wedding!

Hope that helps. I'm sure lots of other people have suggestions too.

I wouldn't forget about other photographers entirely. Depending on your specialist area, you may be able to get links from others that offer a different service but don't compete, e.g. wedding photographer, landscape photographer, architectural photographer, etc. This would give you some relevance and could bring some quality traffic. Of course, a one way link would be better than a reciprocal, if you can figure out a way of getting one.

David,

I would recommend you target a region in your page title

e.g. something like Wedding Photographer Hampshire - David Greensmith.

There are some worthwhile UK wedding directories that you can get listed in and that will drive traffic and improve your rankings, you'll see alot of them ranking highly when you search for your keywords on Google.

You could run a 3 tier strategy.
Google Local, Pay Per Click and SE0, it'll cost but you could have 3 listings on the front page of Google and you'll see a great return on your investment.

The relevancy of the links isn't all important.

David links are important to rankings but if you do not get some basics correct you are hindering yourself - if you do nothing else look at the titles of your pages in your case your home page title is - "David Greensmith Photography - Wedding Photography" and surprise surprise your number one in google for that.

However how many people will search for the phrase? - take a look at the titles first and you may find you will not need many links to rank well.
