Would you buy "face book likes" if you could significantly increase your exposure?

When a user "likes" a piece of content, it shows up in their friends' news feeds. The more friends they have, the more people that "like" will be exposed to.

Although we only have 59 likes after 1 month on face book, I think likes will re-place links over the years

My kids and all there friends on always on face book, it's just a matter of time

Sorry Adrian, but Facebook Likes will never replace links! Facebook is a popular medium, I agree but more and more people are deciding that it is losing its initial appeal!

I know TWO people that still use Facebook on a regular basis, compared to nearly everyone I knew 3 years ago!

You can have a million likes but if you don't have a product that people are interested in, having the likes won't make them buy from you!

Links are never going to be replaced by likes and tweets it's to easy to game + google hate facebook.

Why buy likes from dead accounts that wont get you a purchase? it's madness?

You need to get some flash banners made and advertise on sites that get traffic, your wasting time with facebook in my opinion.

These social "gurus" happily go on about all the money their is to be made but never tell you about the failures , the failures being 99.9% of companies who think facebook page marketing will work.

I totally disagree that the "failure rate" on Facebook need be anywhere need this high - however is does of course depend on the product and I don't think 'grit bins' fall into the category of products / services that are easily likely to benefit from Facebook.

with 2 kids in there teens, and 2 laptops on all day and night,

5% is games
95% of the time it's FB

yes i'm sure you are quite right but it isnt teens that are going to buy your product nor are they going to go 'mum, dad come look gritbins has come up on facey and you need to buy one!!'

I honestly think you could place your efforts better elsewhere.

You should run some paid adverts in the right hand colum with a piccy of a grit bin and a bit of text. You can pick you age group , location etc you might get a bit of business from it but not a lot of people click the ads on the right.

It all depends what your budget is. I notice your on page one of google for grit bin suppliers, why dont you get a load of links fast and try and rank #1?

Adrian clearly subscribes to the same thing I do ;) This was there today... http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2...the-new-links-content-quality-should-increase

I think you'll find the stats would suggest otherwise.

Not so sure using just personal acquaintances and their views is a good enough guide for sensible marketing.

Am I the only person that has zero interest in Facebook? Either personally or as part of ecommerce in general. The whole thing just leaves me cold.

Cold or not, it's the place to be for lots of businesses. Twitter even more so.

The one thing I was taught many years ago is not to think that everyone else holds the same views as you and, therefore, most importantly, not to base all your marketing decisions on that.

Twitter I get, yes I use it and it works. Blogs, yes I have one of those too. Facebook, yes I've looked at it several times with a commercial eye ignoring my own feelings, and I truly don't see it as something worth my time or effort.

Facebook works if you have a local business/shop/cafe/niche market. You can add local people to your list, if you're running a special offer etc they will know about it. I know of at least two people who are making money, for free, by using facebook to promote a product that is very locally based and niche!

Myself, I think Facebook and Twitter are a waste of time but i've signed up for both and i am getting hits to the websites that i've linked to through Facebook and Twitter, no sales yet but hey ho..it's doing something isn't it.

I don't quite understand it other than giving a more personal touch to your business e.g. the customers know you, they've seen your facebook photos, your conversations, your tweets etc.

The country is covered in a blanket of snow. You sell grit bins. You are spending time trying to get 'likes' on facebook. FFS.

perhaps he was just having 5 mins down-time & posted on here? ;)

otherwise, i'd have to agree with Joiner, if your Grit Bin orders haven't gone through the roof over the past few days, you might be doing something wrong with your marketing...
