I've just become a paid member at UKBF

I think they normally send you a case of wine and pair of 1st class return tickets to New York.

If nothing has arrived in a week send a firm reminder to the mods, they often forget.

Seriously though, I just want to know how others have found things here? Although, I see you've made 2700+ posts and aren't a signed up member... perhaps I should have utilised my free membership before rocking straight in with the paid?

HAHA! Fair point.

Well I guess I never saw how being a paid member would improve my use of the forum. Obviously I get a lot of good advice on here... But these days, I think I dish more out to the newer members starting businesses similar to the one I started several years ago.

I love discussing business and offering my experience, it's a pleasure! But not one I'd pay for.

I think it's simply a mechanic to stop people registering simply to add an advert for their own business in their siggy. And from a business point of view, I take my hat off to the operators. If you can kill spam and increase revenue in one go, then well done.

Just out of interest, what made you decide to pay immediatley with no requirement too?

Paid up membership is great - we have our own section which the plebs are not allowed into and we can talk about them. You should see what they are saying about about movietub in there at the moment ;)

ditto that, there are a defined separation of business people on here,a) all the above & b) those that are simply serruptitously? touting for business on the forum.

I thought it may be a kudos thing when I first signed up. But then I figure that it's people signing up and posting that give any forum the capicity to generate ad income - which I imagine is quite a good income on a forum this lively. And how much kudos would I get for paying for something I don't need to, when I'm already one of those contributing and helping to keep it making money as a result?

But if I felt that this was also a good place to advertise my particular business, I would pay up like a shot! It all depends on what business you have to advertise really.

I figured for the sake of £36 for one year, I'd take the risk and see how it goes. Online networking is a good way to raise your profile and build relationships with others so I'm sure (or I hope) it'll become a good return on my investment! Worth a shot right?

Oh, and GRD... Sadly not stalking you. Sheer coincidence! I promise.... ;)

The biggest problem with paid up membership is you have to go into the 'special section' of the forum. All they talk about in there is whipping and wife-swapping. It's a dirty place, frankly.

I'm now considering paying up just to get in the private bit. I'm now wondering who else gets discussed in there!

Is Sir Earl paid up? I have some theories about his age that I'd love to discuss in private...

Liz, just looked over your website........................there are other colours as well, Ive got spots in front of my eyes now.Snowblind.

I like your approach though, very dynamic which is what marketeers should be, I dont know what your on this time of night though to be so bubbly but can I have some.

Not much if you want the honest answer.

When I first joined UKBF a couple of years ago it was a fantastic place to get in touch with some very experienced and trustworthy (due to the many recommendations!) people. Steve Gibson on here played a key role in me turning what was a slow business into a money making full time company (but don't tell him, I reckon his heads getting too big!;)).

I was happy to pay the £36, one to pay a little something back and also to try out the sig links. The problem is I have never used UKBF to get clients and business, so for me after a few years the whole forum is beginning to have less and less appeal to me. I still read the forums as there are a lot of very knowledgeable folks on here, but I doubt if I would pay for membership again. For me, there are no benefits to it.

I became a member many moons again. My membership fee gets paid by the amount of work I receive from members ;) Having access to the private forum means, if I need to I can post sensitive issues in there without google getting it's mitts on it :D

In my opinion you won't regret it ;)

Yup! Thats pretty much how I feel about it! Just exchanging experience and knowledge is fair enough, it is a community site afterall. I also found the forum more useful initially, as it was an easy way of getting answers to questions that had built up over the first few years trading. Truth is I have less questions to ask these days, or maybe I'm just better at researching the answers myself.

I spend time on here these days, in part, because I enjoy the subject of business in general, and in part because occasionally I can offer useful input which is rewarding enough.

And also in part, it's interesting to hear about the hopelessness of some businesses and the monumental problems some people create for themselves!

Being a paid member is great. in addition to the free booze you get to put links to you site in you sig, which really helps with SEO.

I guess the paid membership is worth it for the sig links and the veil of secrecy from Googles prying eyes.

Personally, when I finally get a business up and running thats worth its salt, then I will sign up :)

What about having to make our overseas friends paid up members before they contribute, that may lower the amount of spam we get on the public forum and it get littered in the private one instead.
