I think that I have zlob which has altered the DNS on the router. I can use spybot to get rid of zlob(i think) and then what do I do?, reset router before reconnecting it to pc. Any help on this please
Hi,
[Warning - about 30 odd variants of zLob exist, and not all operate the same]
Firstly, run a Virus Scan. I recommend Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky. (Both have free trails and online versions available, go for the trial if possible)
Its more likely that just your PC was infected, and not the router itself. What zlob (some variants) do is change the DNS settings on your Windows Registry, so that your computer won't use the DNS settings supplied by your router.
If you use XP (I think Vista is the same, but 2000 is different) look in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters and under nameservers you can add the IP addresses to be used.
Or run something like reg update HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NameServer="208.67.222.22 208.67.220.220" \\<machine name>
The above IP addresses are from OpenDNS, and you will need to change the <machine name> to the actual name of the computer.
