Costs will range from free to sky high. Let's explore free :)

You can record decent footage on a smartphone these days, but it'd be better if you have a dedicated camcorder. A tripod is a must though, unless you are going for the 'Blair witch project' look.

Then it's down to pulling the video into some editing software. Commercial packages such as Adobe Premiere/Elements are good, but pricey (especially the full Premiere package), but there are several open source video packages out there, such as Open Movie that appear to be on a par. If you download Windows Live Essentials that even comes with a half decent video editing package that will allow you to edit, add titles etc.

Then it's just a case of compiling it into a format you can upload, and away you go.

I've done dozens of case study videos for my company (see signature for link) that are now on YouTube. These were all done in Adobe Premiere/After Effects.

Once you've created a video clip, here's a tip of how to get it into YouTube. First, you'll need a YouTube account, so register free for that.

Then, assuming you have Windows, run Windows Movie Maker to edit your clip. When finished, you can simply upload your video directly into YouTube - just provide your account credentials.

Thats a great video, although the hand gestures, 2 hands on every start of a sentence and 1 hand on every comma is a little distracting, because you start watching for them and not paying attension to the real content, but production is excellent.
