Your Opinion Needed on New Checkout

Hey everyone,

Decided to change the checkout as i wanted to make it simple and try keep it to a single page.

You can see the checkout by visiting clickshop dot com and adding an item to your basket.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.

My opinion: scrolling down to enter the name and address info is not intuitive. I landed on a typical shopping cart first page, and went looking for the next or continue button (just like on every other website). It wasn't there. I had to scroll down past all your special offers to find the next section of the checkout process.

I see what you're trying to do - reduce the checkout to one page. But it doesn't work, and it doesn't work because the top section of the page is so similar to every other shopping cart that uses multiple pages, and your special offer section is so big it hides the next section.

One other thing. The give to charity option doesn't work for me (might for some people, I don't know). I get annoyed often enough when someone tries to pack my bags in a supermarket for money, I really don't want to be asked to donate on a commercial website too.

Me (and the girlfriend who does a lot of online shoppping) both agree with the above that you need a 'next' button. However this could still allow for a one page checkout, if you could make the page 'jump' down to the bottom section, which is very simple with HTML.

I also agree about the charity option, but I do think you should keep it, and either rotate a different charity every day/week/month to donate to or choose one that you personally believe in and donate to them. The less options you give the customer the better in my opinion, but giving a % of sales to charity is very noble and you should look at a way of implementing it without requiring too much customer interaction.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with your opinions and will get some changes made.

Do you think it would be better if i arranged the special offers vertically on the left side, remove the three checkout options and place a "checkout" button either next to the "update" button or below it. Once the checkout button is clicked the three options expand below or like ecommerce84 said just make the page jump down to the checkout options.

As the page is now i thought the special offers had been in a good position as the customer would have to scroll past them to complete checkout.

Regarding the charity selection process, i did have a "choose one for me" option as default. Will get that fixed.

'Pick one for me' sounds like a great idea. I have just had a nosey around your website and seen how much you have donated, and I am very impressed. Whatever you were doing must have been working and not putting customers off, so I'd say stick with that (regarding the charity options).

Sorry to rush but if anyone else can give me their opinions sooner rather than later that would be most appreciated. I would like to get any issues resolved tomorrow so would be taking the current checkout offline for the changes.

I think Interspire do this very well. Each section of the checkout is presented on the same page, but when you press the Next button, the current section collapes to a single line (with a summary) and the next section is presented. You can always re-visit an earlier section by clicking on it's single line again.

Thanks for that alanc. I will take a look. If anyone is trying to view the checkout it is currently set back to the old version while i carry out some work on the new version. Will post a link once changes have been made to see what you all think.
