Has anybody else had problems with Yell and the bullying when you explain to them that they are saying they can do this and that but really all they want to do is take your monies and run.

Hello and welcome best advice Don't let them bully you and please don't be paying them for a page that you have to promote which in turn means you are paying to promote Yell rather than paying them to promote your business.

I have one client who signed up and he is paying them per month and they tell him he has to promote his page in order to get good rankings. Now my question is does that mean good ranking for his business or good rankings for the yell page? I know of course which it is but sadly he did not work it out until it was too late and his time was up where he could cancel the contract.

I told him money would of been better spent in either seo, social media promotion, or google adverts but certainly NOT yell.

I have asked them to take me to court and then I will go or them as you said it is a waste of monies. Plus they are very very aggressive and threatening. I will speak to my bank to cancel the DD they said I agreed to. They promise so much and lie there back teeth out.

They may not take it to court it all depends on the amount involved but rest assured this lot will have their backsides covered in those T&C's you know the small print you perhaps forgot to read when being pushed into signing up, and also they will of said they gave you a cooling off period and you never took advantage of that.

They can be brutal and it may even cost you more if you go to court as there may be fee's involved which you may end up paying. I understand your frustration but even cancelling your DD may cost you as well, there may be something in those Terms that has you tied. So please don't cost yourself any more money than you have to look at those Terms and see what happens if you stop your DD.

One other thing they are great at telling you they record calls for training purposes you could ask them for a copy of the call even if you have to pay a fee. I would also Inform them in the future that any other call is being recorded by you (which if possible I would do) for security and legal reasons. I have done this before and my my the difference in how they talk to you when they know you are recording them is amazing.

They said they would ring me to set everything up - they were late of course ringing but I said no I did not want to go ahead as I had looked more into it so I was within my rights to advise them that I did not want to go ahead, nothing had been set up. The timeline was I spoke to them on Thursday and Friday the previous week (Friday was to apologise and tell me somebody would ring me on the following Tuesday) So as far as I perceive the contract had not been completed. Thank you for the advice re the phone call. I will write to them and ask for copies of phone calls which as you said they say is recorded.

Hi Gil

You may have to formally request in writing if they can supply you with a copy of the recording either by email or mail.

When I once requested this from a large corporate company they told me they could not find the recording I then said to them if that's the case then they have no evidence that I agreed to anything as like yourself this company tried to tell me I had agreed to something when I knew I had not. I also informed them I would be informing the ICO that it seemed their data protection policies were not as they should be.

I was fortunate enough to get my messages across.

If you have currently not made one payment to Yell as yet then yes cancel the DD, but if any payment has been made sometimes they can argue that you have agreed as a payment has been made and at times this constitutes an agreement being accepted by you. They will use every trick in the book. But please do record any phone call with them and to keep yourself legal you MUST inform them you will be recording the call.

Unable to get out of a contract with zero benefit to your business, but continually paying. What I have started doing is taking a screenshot of my monthly Yell Statistics Page and using it as a photo of my Business, if the advertising wont work positively, it will negatively! Plus leafleting with my statistics and my own business leaflet seems to have had a positive effect on my business!

It's easy put the phone down on them, some bully tactics used by companies are phone recordings if they can get you to say the right thing that triggers what they call a verbal agreement you could end up paying money for crap you never asked for in the first place. Just don't engage them.

They call me every now and then, it's like when they get a new member of staff in they get that person to call me but my attitude to them from the moment they identify themselves lets them know straight away I am not and never will interested.

Which service from Yell did you buy as there are differing implications for each one and what would constitute a failure on their behalf?
I paid the £36.00 and have cancelled the DD but have had no refund. They did try to bully me re the contract. When I said I was recording the call the guy shouted at me and slammed the phone down. Would never ever trust them and would honestly say based on my experience BE CAREFUL

Hi Gil, Make sure you write to them (if not done so already) telling them you have cancelled their service (quoting your reasons) as I have seen them come back months later saying that although the DD was cancelled the service continued to be supplied and the client was liable and debt recovery was commenced.

Also leave a factual and truthful account / comment on Trustpilot as their PR team does seem to have some success in overruling their sales&delivery teams.

They will try and quote "you're in a contract" and that you are in breach by cancelling the DD but if you can prove they havent delivered on their service you do have a fighting chance
