Hi,

I found I enjoy different scented candles at home, so I thought it may be a good idea to resale these on eBay and/or Amazon. I am even prepared to do this for a very little profit margin, just for the hobby and as addition to my current online sales business.

I am looking for suppliers or a place to buy cheap joblots of candles and then sell them individually. I found the Wholesale portal of Yankee Candles UK and signed up there, but do not know what to expect.

Anyone with experience and/or knowledge? Thanks in advance.

Yankee Candle will supply anyone as long as you pay them (and quite often if you don't according to some) but the deals they have with other large companies will wipe you out. They have just done a promotion on a cheap cardboard house with some of their candles in at Clintons- and the promotion was announced two weeks after they supplied all the small independents with the same product who must Retail the product at £10 more than Clintons to get a margin from it. So £24.99 in a candle shop- £14.99 in Clintons. They also sell to the big boys only at Christmas - my local Boots has just had a load delivered - and they are next door to Clintons, who are next door to Debenhams who have also had a delivery. The independent up the road doesn't stand a chance.

Have a look at their accounts and you will see that the business model appears to be "flood the market and give the stock away to increase brand awareness" - turnover is growing big tme but profit is falling like a stone.

All that said, the internet is the place to be for Yankee - as long as you have no costs you can undercut eveyone and be as busy as you wish. Ebay is awash with cheap Yankee - possibly because its one of the biggest shop-lifted items.
