I know we had a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about Yahoo. I have also been using their PPC for some time and this is what I have found.

Yahoo ppc is outperforming Google for me.

I am running a number of campaigns on Yahoo, all are in the B2C market. In actual conversions I am seeing Yahoo outperform Google by more than 2 to 1, even 3 to 1 in some cases. I am getting higher positions and paying less, but the main thing is Yahoo search traffic is buying traffic. We all get so focused on the Big G we forget Yahoo still has market share too. I suggest you test Yahoo for your market. Unless you are in a highly competitive market, chances are your competitors are not there .

Please note this is search traffic ( Sponsored Search ) not Content Match. CM I have found is still poor. This was B2C testing not B2B.

I can't agree or disagree with you there. Each ad campaign is different and it's entirely how you use them I think. I had a rough opening month using Yahoo but I persisted and it's paid off. Yahoo is delivering a 200% revenue above cost which isn't bad, but if Google is lagging behind I'll turn my focus to the campaign there to get a bit of equilibrium.

I think you have to optimise each campaign differently. I've recently been using Analytics new custom report tool to compare revenue against each keyword, with campaigns in Google, MSN and Yahoo, which has helped management immensely.

It's funny you should say CM is quite poor for you because it's my main cash cow at the moment.

Are you selling to Americans only, and are you using the Yahoo content network or only search?

Regards
James.

James,
This was UK. I also use Yahoo for US traffic, and find the same thing, however for the US you need a US Account. I do wish Yahoo would make it that I can market anywhere through the one account, but they don't, it is again something where they lose out to Google.
This was UK search traffic, I have not found for me that the yahoo content match delivers the results i get from the google content network. Saying that, as Rich06 said, for him , the results on the content match were better. This could mean for me on that niche, the traffic on yahoo just isn't there, but for Rich06 it clearly is. The only thing to do is to test it for your market.

Interesting post, so you can tell what the demographics are from your Yahoo PPC visitors?

Dave,

If you mean am I getting a picture of of who these buyers are , based on the products that are being sold, then yes.

This was a series of like for like product tests in Google and Yahoo, same ads, same landing pages. Volume of traffic , higher in Google, but conversion rate higher from Yahoo. Per 1000 visitors Yahoo is giving a better return.

You would be unlikely to get a result from using Yahoo content as they don't show their ads on UK sites (well at least not those owned by Brits).

I have been waiting ages to join YPN as a UK publisher, not heard anything back yet :| Not that it really bothers me as I am happy with adsense but they are hardly going to grow if they don't get us Brits on board.

Yahoo Publisher Network said:
Participants of the program must have a valid U.S. Social Security or Tax ID number, and web site content that is predominantly in English and targeted at a U.S. user base.

No, I meant are you able to see the demographics of visitors from your Yahoo PPC ads, not based on who buys what.

The reason I ask is Yahoo has historically sent a lot of unqualified traffic, typically US traffic that drives up the cost for a deminishing return.

I'd be very interested to hear that they've got their marketing choices much more geographically-centric than before, but you can't tell that just from paying customer data.

Yes, the geo issues are sorted out. The traffic sent for UK Campaigns was all UK traffic. You also break down by region.
