Sent today to Yahoo!

“A member of your staff has stolen the Yahoo user id [email protected] which I have used since 1997.

Firstly if you you are going to steal ids back for your staff to use it would be polite to tell people, not just lock people out without warning.

Secondly, I am concerned that this person may have abused my identity or had access to my private information.

Can you please let me know what steps you are taking to ascertain to what extent Yahoo! has compromised my privacy.”

You mean they just stole your email account?? I hope you've begun switching over site memberships subscription address' to your new email, where possible. Unfortunately, Yahoo! is right up there with Paypal "making the internet more accessible to fraudsters" (catchy slogan, huh?). Sorry to hear what they've done, microbe.

Well, the full detail is that during January (?) the log in suddenly stopped working. I reported it and heard nothing. I opened a new account and moved my groups subscriptions. Still heard nothing.... I thought today well,I'll have another try at logging in, no joy, then I had a look at the account profile and found that it has magically got picked up by one of their administrators.

I expect the bullshit will be that the account was unused for 90 days so it lapsed, but if you block the log in and don't deal with the support query, that is what will happen.

Fortunately, I have never used this for a/c for any business purpose.

me too ..i have a tale to tell...

I have used yahoo email for over 3 years! ...one day last month ...i logged in and it said "your account has been deactivated" .... I went MAD, i have loads of contacts and old important email in there! ...anyhow ..after hours of searching i found a way to email them through their abuse form ... and a coule of days later ..my account started working...phewww, but sometime later i received an email saying that my account was terminated in line with their TOS.

the only reason why i think this happened is cos my address may have been used in spam emails by someone else ....so that’s my tale.

...next time it could be you

If you buy your own domain name, then you can get email as part of the package.

(The main thing to watch with buying your own domain name is not signing up with anybody unscrupulous who makes registration in their own name and not yours - it happens too frequently.)

Another.com can also be useful as a reasonably priced facilty which gives you up to six aliases and a choice of thousands of domains on which to base your email address.

Update on Yahoo, I particularly like the last line of their message "New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - better than ever!"

But I have written and asked if they are just wasting my time or are admitting that their staff did rip off the account. Amazing that they have to have my email address sent to them on paper - they need it as they can only reply by email. :)

What a bunch of tossers. Here 'tis...
