.XXX for mainstream?

Sorry I mis-understood the question, I didn't realise it was for an adult site.

I just searched (but didn't click on any links haha) for livexxx and I get you just near the bottom of page one. Which isn't ideal considering this is an exact match search without spaces etc. Typically if you google someone's domain (who owned a .com for example) without spaces they'll be position 1,2,3 - usually top. I know there are lots of other factors involved in what makes a site rank well, but I truly believe your domain is a factor.

Give me a break, I have not even seo'd that domain yet!

I can show you .tv domains ranking high

BTW - I want to use a .xxx for mainstream not porn - any point?

So why isn't livexxx.com top then?

Like I said domains are a factor of SEO but not everything, there could be far too many factors to list why livexxx.com isn't top (it could be blacklisted or anything, or have zero backlinks or content on it). My point was that these low level domians usually aren't as good/valuable and for most businesses aren't advisable (adult sites are a different kettle of fish because the majority don't have a brand to protect etc).

I did understand the question correctly then :) so no, a xxx domain is not a good idea for a non adult site as people (and potentially in the future, search engines) will assume it's adult related, which could cause major problems for you (such as low click through rate > llow quality score, and if labeled as adult you'd risk losing all your ranking for any mainstream keywords you'd achieved).

For the OP's original question, nope. xxx will always be associated with 'adult' sites IMHO.

As for the domain factor, I am a strong believer in the right domain dependent on your target audience.

I have .co.uk sites that reguarly outstrip .com sites in the UK search results and of course, vice versa for global audiences...more and more visitors are searching then refining for location IMHO.

But as pointed out expertly above. A domain alone will not make (or break) your rankings. There are a huge amount of ingredients that go into the SEO soup.

The main one being hard work....

HTH
