WOW new design

Well I quite like the new design of the forum, seems a little bit sticky though when loading up new threads, pages etc. I'm sure it will be sorted in time.

Just wondered what everyone else thought of it?

Regards,

Damion.

It is nice and clean, but there are a few quirks: mine is the \ before an apostrophe, so it is The Dawg\'s Biscuits. No big deal; the Dawg\'s problems are not big enough for this to raise the Dawg\'s stress levels, so Dawg\'s little paw isn\'t stamped and Dawg\'s language ain\'t bluw.

Were the member titles in the old version? e.g. datahound and myself are Entrepreneurs, the lowest level, and others appear titles include exec and director. That's all very well for those with exec and director...but it is a bit disheartening to be labelled an entrepreneur when that is not how I would describe myself. I know that I have just joined the forum a few days ago but it can be very intimidating for new members when they get the feeling that they are not fully accepted into the community until they have made a certain number of posts/ been here a certain length of time.

I dont like it at all, if I'm not logged in, it flashes on some other page, then seems to redirect me back to where I came from. After several attempts it finally logs me in, but between each topic I view I get some screen flashing on in front.
Does this mean if you are not registered you cant view posts? I think if this is the case then there wont be many newcomers.
As for the actual layout, I much preferred the old one.

On a more positive note I like this one despite not being able to use it in my MAC IE which is obviously due to it being outdated.

The layout is far better. I do not mind the titles at all because I don't take them seriously and it is no different with other forums out there, which are much quieter.

I also like the statistics at the bottom which shows how many active members there are, which shows it is not a quiet forum

Would it be possible for those who know how to post smilies in the new forum to publish a list for the rest of us?

It would be, except there is a limit of 2 images per post.

Go to your user CP and under "edit options" change the "Message Editor Interface" to "Enhanced - WYSIWYG"

then when clicking "post reply" the smilies will appear on the right side of the reply screen

I like the new version - smarter, and a few clearer bits of signposting like no's of active users on the thread you're in, star-rating system for threads and so on. I, like several other members, experience slower screen loading times than in the old version, though. I've also noticed that it's no longer possible to edit a post you have previouslt made - you have to post a correction as a new post. Is this deliberate, for purposes of non-repudiation (so you can't take back what was originally written)?

    LoL @ MyNI !

As for not being able to edit your post, it seems to give you 2 minutes to edit your post to fix mistakes and then after that only a moderator can make amendments. This is an editable function which can be changed.

At the end of the day, we are not going back to the old system as this is more stable and has more functionality. I am more than happen to listen to feedback, hence the bug list and feedback forum, and tweak all the settings to find the perfect balance betwene functionality and reducing spam.

Unfortunately, with any change you will never be able to please everyone. :frown:

I do like the stats at the bottom myself though. I never realised these forums were as busy as this, and more people seem to be posting on these new forums than before!

I'll give it a few more days, but at the moment I'm still leaning towards the previous design. It was simpler and seemed to have more space for the posts. The current design looks a little "cluttered" and "crammed". Then again, I'm not into all the technical features a forum package has to offer.

In the end it's not a matter of life and death, and as Ozzy says, you can't please everyone.

I think it's fine, but I also thought the old one was too :)

Can I put in a plea for a 'view you posts' function. It's the most useful of all the functions on bulletin boards because it means you can go first to all the threads that you have posted in and see if there has been a post requiring a response.

The old board didn't have it either.

(Or have I not found it yet?)

That facility is available in the UserCP, under subscribed threads. I have seen it but not used it myself yet.
Tried it and it works so i've bookmarked the page - thanks.

Now, when I use the bookmark it goes directly to the threads I am contributing to.

However, it didn't carry over the threads I was participating in on the old board (no big deal) but it didn't show any of the threads as having a new post since my last visit - which they did. That's more of a problem as it reduces the feature's usefulness. Maybe just a glitch.

If its doing that it because thats the page you must have bookmarked it on. If you go to the main page of the forum and bookmark that it will take you there everytime, tbh thats the way it works on any forum.

I'm not complaining; it's doing that because that's what I want it to do!

If you bookmark it that way you go directly to the threads you've been posting on - jolly useful. Pity the new post marker is still broken tho'
