Would you ever put adverts on your car for extra cash?

Just a quicke.

Would you ever allow advert on your car for some extra cash? Obviously your brand new BMW would be out of the question but what about an older less desirable car?

No, I would not.

I also would not advertise on the side of a personal car.

Without going into detail, you will find there is not the appeal to advertisers for marketing on the side of some random private cars then on the sides of black cabs.... And even then, that's a dwindling form of marketing in itself...

Its been tried in the past. To get any decent money you need plenty of ads and then if the ads are small no-one will see them. Plus its never been proven (because you cannot measure it) just how effective this form of marketing is for an advertiser.

Well, you could measure it at least to some degree by having, for example, a different phone number for your car adverts.

You don't, but you can still measure it by ROI. It's the same as billboard advertising in that sense, isn't it?

Yes it is the same as billboard, its *passive*. Fine for the big boys who want to increase awareness, not much good for small businesses where every marketing pound has to a) make money or b) help the business understand what they need to change to make the campaign effective.

Anyway, regards the OP I *might* if it was something I had a vested interest in and the car had some bearing on what I was advertising.

Sure, I don't dispute that. But it does have its place, traditional marketing isn't completely obsolete yet.

Coincidentally, I'm about to place some removable magnets to my (private) car door to draw attention to my business website. Figure on using them when I go to cities, industrial areas, the airport etc. Let's face it, it can't do any harm and you never know.

I'd say that it all depends on the type of business though and as my business offers services for a very wide range of clients including private individuals, it's potentially a cheap advertising method. Let's see what happens :)

Would be worth including how this works out for you in the end :).

My daughter advertises her beauty business by having advertising on her car. It certainly gets her business noticed and as she works from home, her new clients can easily find her. I think the cost to have vinyl logos over most body panels was £150, so it was worth it just in awareness.

How long has your daughter been advertising on her car? Does she see daily results from it or just the odd job?

No - I advertised my own business on my car for several years but took it off as I was fed up with the rude anonymous notes left on my car for parking in residential streets, completely legally and properly, but people were just riled by the fact that it was a "commercial" vehicle when actually it wasn't, it was a personal car but with adverts on it.

It got to me in the end so I peeled all the stickers off one day. I haven't had a note left on my car since.

Sorry to hear of your negative experience though I must say I found that rather interesting :).

@TeeBee Does your daughter experience the same?

I'm with Jeff, the insurance aspect would kill it unless you can pay the driver a load of cash.

Any signs on a car is something that you have to tell your insurance company about and they will load the premium. Cars with signs on attract more crooks, because it makes crooks think there is stuff inside. The danger of the sign coming off or causing an accident is minimal.

If people put them on the car and the car is broken it will probably render the insurance useless and you will have people trying to recover their costs from you
