Hi everyone
Hope you don't mind me jumping in with a question straight away but I am looking into a Yell media telesales role and wondered if anyone had experience working for them. I've heard its real graft and long hours but that doesn't bother me for the returns but i've heard the bonuses and incentives structure is pretty good??
Any responses would be much appreciated

There are many threads on here and other forums about how Yell just isn't worth the money. You could find yourself on for a very difficult and frustrating job in a business that is failing!

Have to echo that one I'm afraid... I'd have no truck with them...

I know from experience it is a long hard job but the pay is good (for telesales). I would envisage however it becoming more and more difficult to sell Yellow pages ad space however if you are going to be selling the Yell.com space then sure, if you get offered the job I would take it.

I have a couple of old work mates who work there in Bristol and it it certainly pays well but the hours can be long. Also the recruitment process is very long winded and I hear they are very picky as to who they will take on.

A job is a job, especially in this climate. OP doesn't say if they have been offered the job yet either.

I agree advertising in Yell or yell.com is a complete and utter waste of time however there are still hundreds of thousands of businesses that do it.

I believe it to be some of the most overpriced and worthless advertising forms available and the sales staff just do not understand the word NO! lol

I worked in media sales a while ago and I met someone there that had come from Yell the only good thing he had to say about it was their training is second to none which would explain why they are very picky about who they take on.

In my opinion there is still alot of money to be made from Yell as there are still 1000's of companies advertising with them, even if you don't like it then it's just another experience.

Depends on two things....

Are you willing to work 12-15 hrs a day to make any decent money
Are you an honest person who is willing to bend the truth to get a result, which goes against what you believe in?

If you answered no to these two questions then dnt join!!

Take the job if offered ,a job is a job and the money to be made at Yell is outstanding, you will receive great training and you will think it is the bees knees ,however and a huge word of waring here, after training the job will be different to what you think it is,you will also see some practices or hear things people say just to get sales,I would ignore all these and stick to what your training taught you but you may find after a few months of being at the bottom of the leagues the temptation to try a few new practices shall we say becomes too much ,but the pay is great and i wouldnt put you off, dont listen to the doom-mongers as yell is most definetley not on the way out.

I've said it quite a few times and I'll say it again...
Yell.com sales revenue went UP by 40% last financial year......
So as new media products to sell go, how bad can it be?

And you know why that is......

During the recession more and more people started there own business.

Now during the first year of business you test advertising you see what works and what does not.

Now all those new companies that purchased yell advertising of some form going by the recent volume of people complaining they made no profit leads me to think that that 40% figure wont be repeated.

According to Yell's own figures, their sales for Yell.com, Yellow Pages and 118247 went down by 14pc. I got their figure from their financial report.

I agree with this. If you look at the many posts out on the net and by the figures in Yells financial report shows that the UK figures have gone down. Its becasue of their international markets, Yell.com is surviving.
