Wordpress permalinks

I add this code to the custom permalink structure

/%postname%/

It changes the post names to the titles of the post which is what i want,

But when i now click the posts it gives me an error page cant be displayed .

Anyone got the low down?

Sometimes it depends on the server, try

%postname%

if not,

index.php/%postname%

It does the same when i hover over the link it has changed to seo friendly but when you click you get that dammd 404 error. Im lost

But it add index.php in each url does that affect anything or doesnt it really matter?

Remove the /'s you don't need them.

It's not perfect, but it's better than p=345.

Yep that'll be why, I have a lot of client blogs on Windows servers that need to be setup that way. The index.php in the URL won't make much of a difference.

Yer it is because your web host is running Microsoft's IIS. Apache is far better and can be installed on Windows but obviously your host have opted not to install it.

IIS can deal with the permalinks without using the index.php/blah format. There needs to be a web.config file in the root directory where your visitors view your WP pages, so if it's yourdomain.com/ then in publichtml root or yourdomain.com/blog/ then in blog/
