Does anyone know how I can add more authors to a Wordpress blog? Not a website, just the standard mysite.wordpress.com?

I've sent an invite out but when they click on the link it wants them to create their own blog. Even if they do build their own blog, they still can't see my blog in their list. Even if I delete their blog, they still can't do anything other than make their own.

I've tried inviting authors and administrators.

They have to have their own Wordpress.com account to be able to become an author on another as they need access to the wp.com panel to see which blogs they can contribute too.

Personally I would advise moving away from wordpress.com. getting WordPress.org installed on your own hosting as you can then control who can do what on your site and you have way much customisability for the site.

Yes, you'll have a lot more control using self hosted WordPress.
Any decent host will provide a one click installer so you can have it installed in seconds, and some even let you select it when you order to have it installed for you.

One click installers like Softaculous can also be used to take backups, and email you when new version are available, or even be set up to auto upgrade if you like.

So self hosted really isn't more difficult, it's just as quick and easy really, but has the obvious benefits of being fully under your control, and more customisable.

You can then add you contributors and authors in your WordPress Dashboard, under Users, or have them register themselves - and give them author status for example.

If you have any questions about getting self hosted WordPress set up feel free to get in touch.

Best of luck,

Dan
