Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first question!
We are starting up a recycling business and wonder if anyone knows of the various uses and outlets for the wood chippings and pellets side of our business.

Thanks in advance

I can't tell you any specifics, but I can tell you some areas you can research.

Wood chippings/pellets can be burnt for fuel, for things like underfloor heating, or to generate power. Wood chippings can also be used in gardens and on playgrounds as a soft surface.

I doubt that this helped, but meh lol.

In addition to selling as a fuel, a lot of pellet suppliers market their products as bedding i.e. horse bedding and /or cat litter. Google horse bedding pellets to get an idea of prices and usage. (ps VAT on pellets as fuel is 5% whereas for bedding its 20%)

Ditto the horse bedding comment - I have 2 & they both bed on shavings (not: not chippings!) - they need to be good quality, soft, no splinters or trash in them & dust extracted as best you can. A bag or 2 per horse per week is a good estimate of what people would be purchasing. Current going rate for good shavings is £7.50 a bag. You can market the "dust" you've extracted (but not trash, obviously!) to the lower end of the market, who bed on sawdust. That goes for a quid a bag.

I've used the Heating Pellets in the past as bedding too - didn't really like them much so switched back to shavings. That was last year. Think the price then was 120 quid for 500kg bag or thereabouts. This lasted me a good 4 or 5 months, so not as quick profit.
