Wireless Routers

My issue is that my home office is on the third floor and my D-LINK DIR-615 WIRELESS N ROUTER is on the ground floor. I get poor reception in my office and other areas of the house, what is my best option to improve this situation.

We just chucked in a Edimax EW-7415PDn Repeater for a hotel

WDS Bridge Mode (Repeater Mode)
The WDS (Wireless Distributed System) function let the Edimax EW-7415PDn act as a wireless LAN access point and repeater at the same time. Users can use this feature to build up a large wireless network in a large space like airports, hotels and schools …etc. This feature is also useful when users want to bridge networks between buildings where it is impossible to deploy network cable connections between these buildings.

I am also having the same trouble with my router. Is the above easy to set up for a novice like me or do you need to be an IT wizkid?

If your router is in the lounge or dinning room move it out in to the hallway and fit it so it has a clear a view as possible upstairs. This should make a difference and allow you to pick up a signal from 2 floors up. If you use repeaters they will slow down your connection.

I'd go with a set of powerline adaptors (ideally the second one being a wireless access point) or else terminate the second one into an Access point then when upstairs connect to the closest access point (the new one!) and hopefully you should get much better signal

the reason for using powerline adaptors is that they use the existing wiring in the house as network cabling (they still also support 240V) this is ideal for most people as they don't want network cabling running through the house.

I would go with what Stu has recommended, as the cost is not a lot and would do what you need.

Well recommended Stu mate.
