Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Hi

Does anybody have any recommendations for any good wireless keyboards and mice? I use my system all day, every day... so it may not really be possible. I do hate wires and clutter though.

These will need to last many, many hours and then be recharge over night. I really don't want to have to buy and change batteries al of the time.

I don't know which is best but for usability I'd prefer bluetooth... no extra "dongle" or anything to plug into the system.

So, is there anything that fits the bill and works as expected, anything that anyone can recommend? I'm worried that any product I go for won't live up to the manufacturers claims. Do any of you guys use a wireless mouse or keyboard?

Cheers

You can't go far wrong with Microsoft of Logitech for mice and keyboards.

I have a Microsoft mouse which runs on AAA's and lasts for ~14 months, it's used for 2-3 hours a day.

You can obviously get rechargeable versions, however over time the batteries will wear so make sure they're replaceable or greatly exceed your needs

I've read about the Microsoft keyboards and mice being good on Amazon too, so perhaps they're the ones to go for. Also a fan of Logitech myself having always used their pretty basic wired mouse.

The ~14 months run time for the Microsoft mouse, even only being used for 2-3 hours a day, sounds quite good.

Will look into it further and report back for anyone else that may be interested!

Just a quick question, how come your website redirects to a subdomain www2?

Didn't have a clue what you meant for a moment then until I looked up hungryhorse.co.uk which redirects to www2. This site and company has nothing to do with me but the local "Hungry Horse" pub was the random inspiration for my username :)

Using wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse, but not "bluetooth"...

Batteries last ages... Really isn't much to worry about in this regard, were talking months and months between battery changes, and I'm a heavy computer user.

Thanks, good to know that you're not having problems with battery life. Constantly hear Logitech and Microsoft being mentioned so I'm certainly going to go with one of the two.

It's such a simple thing but I want to make sure I go for the right product first time :) Bluetooth would just be nice but I guess it doesn't matter, most of these wireless USB things appear to be minature / out of the way - no cables etc.

My new mouse has a charging dock and runs off it's own battery. I always wondered why they weren't made like that in the first place.

On one hand the dock makes perfect sense. On the other hand it takes away from the "wireless" aspect, as there will still be a dock on my desk and I'm trying to minimize clutter! I guess I could place the dock on the floor or something.

However, if these things last as long as people say then I may not need a product with a dock :)

There are no wires. The mouse fits into a plug, similar to a small battery charger. There's also a USB wire incase I run out of power, where I can connect like a wired mouse, but I can't see me ever needing to use that as when the power light comes on, it stays on for a while, which is long enough for me to last through the evening and charge overnight.

My advice, though, get a Microsoft deskset. I've had the cheap Trust ones from Wilkos which were £12.99 or something and they didn't last more than four months. I got a Microsoft deskset and the keyboard is fantastic, but I broke the mouse (My own fault) which is why I bought this one.

That USB wire sounds really handy! Always nice to have it there "just incase". I'm guessing that whilst plugged in via USB it can charge too? So during uncharged periods you use it as a wired mouse, then once charge wireless! That would be pretty magical. I'll probably get the keyboard & mouse as one set but out of interest what mouse do you have? Sounds good.

I must admit, I've used some cheap set many years ago and wasn't fond of it which is why I'm doing a lot of research now. After using an iMac recently with the wireless keyboard/mouse, I know that they can be built well - just a matter of finding the right product.

I am more than happy with the Logitech cordless mouse for the computer, i have a couple of them, my favorite is very heavy in my hand and comes with a charger, even though you just put it on charge when you are finished the battery does not last forever, and well worth changing lasts so much longer, I got the replacement logitech mouse battery at batterytrader.com

I have a couple of logitech keyboards as well not sure if they come with rechargeable batteries or not but i was using rechargeable ones plugged into a charger in the office and i was forever swapping them over, now i just use throw away AAA's and they seem to last ages, they just seem to have more go than the rechargeable ones.
