Windows 8.1 has Start button

A lot of people are asking for us to download and use the windows 7 interface for them for this very reason. Got this news about a week or two ago and it's going to dissolve a lot of minor work requirements such as this.

Great, at least they listen!
I have no intention of using a touch screen laptop/desktop (nor do I really see the point of them), I am borderline OCD keeping my screens spotless and the last thing I want is fingermarks all over them.:eek::eek:

Hi,
The Start Menu can be made into a toolbar, which will allow you access to all the programs you'd normally see in All Programs. To do this follow the below steps.

 1. Make sure a show hidden file has been enabled.
 2. Right-click on the Taskbar and click Toolbars and then New toolbar.
 3. Browse to C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows and select Start Menu and choose Select Folder
Once the above steps have been completed you'll have a new Start Menu folder with all your programs in the Programs folder.

Excellent news! Why would MS think the Metro menu would play well in offices.... and why ever would they remove the option for a start menu in the final beta in the first place!

...their heads were in the cloud(s).

Is 8.1 a new release, or a windows update?

Great news they're bringing it back though. :)

Don't get too excited just yet - it's only a rumour just yet and if it happens it *may* just be to a shortcut to the current start/metro interface (although fingers crossed otherwise!).

Looks like "boot to desktop" might be in its way back though - registry settings spotted in the latest builds.
