Windows 10 network issue

Hi

I have a Acer ZC-700 desktop which is just used for internet browsing but it no longer connects to the router with ethernet or wifi and I have no idea why, its on pretty much 24/7 so could well have done an update without me knowing but there are no restore points available.

If I run the windows trouble shooter it says it cant identify the problem, if I try to connect to the router it says there is no internet connection.

I've tried updating the drivers by downloading them onto another machine but no luck and I've uninstalled the drivers, rebooted which I believe windows will then install the drivers again.

If I run Chrome I get an error

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks

There is a WiFi item in the left menu of Network & Internet. Select that and it should show you if WiFi is on or not.

You could also launch a command window (CMD from the search box) and enter ipconfig /all - this will list all connection options available on the machine.

Is the router allowing other machines to connect to the internet? If not re-start the router (power off/power on) and then see what you have.

If the router is connecting other machines it's down to the Acer. Try swapping the Ethernet cable for one that is working on another machine, ensure that WiFi is switched on the Acer and restart

Got in to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center now select Change Adapter settings. Let me know what you see in there and if there is a cross under Ethernet or wireless as they maybe deactivated. To activate right click and left click Enable. If is no wireless or Ethernet there then its drivers... Will let you know what to do from there

Thanks for the replies, I've tried looking at this a few times today, the wifi was on but normally it shows networks it can connect to, the ethernet adapter showed it was connected to a network and my laptop works fine on wifi and ethernet so I knew it was the Acer.

Control panel showed no issues with the hardware

Tried all kinds of things, wondered if it was the firewall, switched that off, read about ipconfig release from cmd prompt that didnt work

In the end I gave up, looking for safe mode in windows 10 (Windows 7 is on my laptop and my primary machine) I found recovery option and reset, I think it basically re installed windows and kept my files intact, that worked a treat.

Probably overkill but at least it works, Thanks for your tips
